My due date has come and gone. (it was Sunday the 11th) and I am scheduled for an induction in the morning. Has anyone ever had this and are the contractions more or less painfull than going into labor on your own? This is my second child and the first time I went naturally into labor 2 days before my due date. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect. Thanks in advance!

I dont really know why they are inducing me other than that seems to be the way things are done now. I mean I am only 2 days past my due date, I don't see the rush but my doctor wanted to induce at 38 weeks and I told her no, I wanted to go naturally. She said well, we will induce if you go past your due date.

I have been induced & YES it does hurt!!! but thats only because they come harder & faster.... At least you will know when the contractions are coming!, You'll have midwifes or docters around if you need them & you wont have to worry about your water breaking at an inconvenient time or place!!!!! you'll be fine!!!! good luck with it all....

First of all, congratulations on the new little one. I am a mother of 3 all of whom were induced. They induce for different reasons, but two of my three reasons where the babies were a couple of days over due. During the induction this is what to expect,
First they will give you something (a little pill inserted into the vagina) to try to start you dilating. If your not dilated at all on your own.
Then through the I.V they will give you medication called pitocin. This stuff (makes you contract) is pretty strong.
Then for a few hours they will try to let nature take its course. If your body is not ready...it will react to the pitocin, but that's it. So then they would send you home to try again in a few days.
If your body is responding, they may break your water, which is a surety that your not leaving the hospital without baby in arms. Once, they break your water, labor really seems to get started.
First induction took 22 1/2 hours for baby to come, second induction took 8 hours for baby to come and third induction took ...well we won't go there (just too dang long)..but all in all it is a very painful experience, but I imagine not too much different than going into labor on your own. Remember to relax and breath and let nature take its course. The more stressed out you are..the longer it will take. Good luck and please post an update when you and baby are home safe!

I would question any doctor that wants to induce that soon. A due date is an estimate only..not an EXACT date. Unless there is a medical reason to induce, I would not do it. Most Dr's will only think about induction once 2 weeks late rolls around.
The contractions come on very intense and fast.

I have heard that it is more painful. I have never gone into labor naturally so I do not know.
But basically it was told to me that it is more painful because your body doesn't have the chance to work up to it. Its usually just boom you are in full labor. Also it is medication controlled instead of your body doing it.
I personally feel like once you reach a certain level of pain its just all the same. You get to a point where hurt is hurt no matter how bad it is LOL.
Remember the pain is soon taken away and the result is very worth it!
Good luck!

In my experience, the contractions are more painful, but not much. Don't worry, I don't think you will notice a level of difference between your contractions with your first baby and this one. I'm pretty sure that when you are induced, it goes a little faster, so maybe you wont be in labor for 2 days this time.

I have gone into labor on my own and induced. With being induced was more prepared for the contractions and the pain that normally follows. But to compare, to me, it was about the same. I didnt see any big difference just that labor seemed to last alot longer with being induced. Good Luck to you and your new bundle of joy!

Yes it hurts worse. The contractions are more painful. I am curious as to why you are being induced? I hope it is for a good reason and not just because you are 2 days overdue. If it is just that I would WAIT...give it alteast a week to two weeks. There is NO rush. It's not worth the extra pain AND the much higher risk of c-section. good luck!

I am so sorry to tell you that it is more painful. Your contractions are forced by medicine so they don't progress in the same way. Every time you see the nurse turning up the medicine your contracts will get more intense. Sorry! I was enduced. Just remember when it's over it's over. Good Luck.

It should be more painful comparing normal as the medicine actually force you to dilate and contractions will be more frequent and intense. Not to worry whether it is more painful or not. Most importantly it is your baby and he is fine either via normal or c-sect. Good luck to you and enjoy your motherhood.
