I bought this self aerating decoration for my tank a lobster that opens up his mouth and blows bubbles out. I just set it up last night but it makes quite a disturbance in the tank and seems to freak out the fish so I shut the pump off. Will the fish get used to that or should I just leave it off?

Buy a valve at wall-mart. Then you can close the ariline valve down to where it will only open occasionaly. I think the fish will get used to it. The other thing is , How big is your aquarium? The decoration might be too big, but unless the decoration is more than 3-4 inched long or so and the aquarium is at least a ten gallon you should be ok

in my opinion your fish are experiencing the 'hidden camera effect'... fish are cautious but very curious as well. so they propably will want to examine the lobster. as soon as the lobster opens its mouth and the bubbles come out they get scared to death, like when someone visits a wax museum and looks at a wax statue (that is someone from the hidden camera team pretending to be a wax statue) and then, suddenly, the statue shouts to the visitors and scares them ...

i'd suggest that you take an air stone or bubble wand instead.

best wishes, f.

I put a dinosaur that spist out bubbles in a 5.5 gallon guppy tank. It took the guppies about three days to get used to it. You should buy a valve to limit the amount of air and slow down the noise.

they probably won't get used to it, sorry.

put a normal air stone in or a bubble wand, if fish are startled by something then you are stressing them, which is not good for their health,
