We want to board up and repair the hole it is using, but how do we determine when it comes out. We watch the hole until very late at night, but can never seem to catch it coming and going. Are there any techniques we could use to flush it out?

Maybe toss in a handfull of mothballs or something like that. The varmint probably would hate the smell and leave. Burning the house down would work too, but that's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

These little dude are crafty. May even have another way in and out you have yet to find. But, try putting a thread across the opening and narrow down the time it get broken. Leave a little something to eat near it (Bread will do) to lure him/her out. If this works and you determine the coast is clear, make the repairs. Oh, if you get a live trap. (Cat trap) You can catch and release if you so desire. Make sure no babies are in there!

Set out a pan with coca-cola mixed with fly poison (available at most big farm supply stores)...and hope he doesn't crawl back up in there to die.

Try and clean your chimney and patch up that hole...whether it is in there or not...try and get him out before you patch it up...that maybe all the best you can do.
