I think Selfishness is one important reason of being dishonest. The more selfish one is the more dishonest one is. Another reason is to overcommit or to overpromise . it leads to escape from being questioned and to save ones face by making stories. Greediness is another reason . It makes one person leave behind existing posessions and run after other options...any how selfishness leads to dishonesty,,

They are dishonest because their parents were dishonest to them at one point, they don't want to hurt someones feelings, or the truth sucks and they think lies are more exciting that people would have more interest in them if they have something to tell.

For the most part,I think dishonesty is the result of one of three things.
1.Pain Avoidance.Either real or emotional,pain is often the result of telling the truth.Many people lie to avoid their own shortcomings.
2.Greed.Some people lie to get the advantage, financially, or socially. Greed can be for more than money,it can also be based
on social competition,for friends,for connections,for appearances.
3.Sociopathy.Some sociopaths lie simply because they can't tell the truth.They will lie about anything and everything,because they hate everyone around them,and they feel it gives them power over others.

I don't really know, but my old mum used to say you could tell the dishonest ones cause their eyebrows meet in the middle! So all you monobrows out there start telling the truth!

People are dishonest, because wherever someone sets out to be deceitful, they will always find someone to deceive.
If everyone stopped being such a sap, then no-one would try it on.
I.E. There's a sucker born every minute...
But swallowers are hard to find!

it's a personal choice, not all people are dishonest but many are...

some people are shortsighted others are farsighted... dishonesty pays u instantaneously while honestly pays u in long run... shortsighted people never see the dire consequences of being dishonest in the long run...

Because we are born into sin and without the salvation of Jesus Christ then ones nature is to stay into sin. Which, of course, lying is a sin for those of you who are unfamiliar with what is sin and what is not!

and he will lie cheat and if necessary kill for it. It is the reason why law has been brought about.
