i think that adhd (attention deficit hypoactivity disorder) it too widly used to explain behavioural problems in children these days. i also think we're too quick to drug kids up on dex and or ritilin.
why has there been so many more "cases" of adhd or add, diagnosed in the last 10 years? is society just looking for a quick fix?

It's not just you - I happen to agree also. When my son was in first grade the school started in on me to have him diagnosed as ADHD & "suggested" medication - turned out the child had a severe vision problem that normal screening didn't catch & he could not see! I stuck to my guns & told them no drugs, & no, he didn't have a behavior disorder - & I was right!
Everybody wants a "quick fix" as you said - from everything to making kids behave to losing weight. Take these pills & you'll feel/look/act all better!! It's like Jack & the Magic Beans!! lol And it doesn't always work.
Kids receive little to no discipline at home, the teachers are so busy trying to keep their classrooms disciplined that they can't teach so they learn very little & with TV being the best babysitter on the planet, children don't develop attention spans anymore. They can't sit still & pay attention because no one taught them how to do that. Parents have got to start teaching their children self-discipline at home!!
Okay, I'll get down off my soapbox now - but yes, ADHD is too widely used as a diagnosis to cover a whole host of ills these days.
All I can say is do what you can with your own children & hope other parents will begin to do the same with theirs.

Yep. In the old days we just beat kids with a paddle or switch until they shut up and behaved for a while. Now that beating kids is not quite so acceptable we instead pretend they have some bogus medical condition and shut them up by drugging the hell out of them.

Sure some people actually have ADHD, but I suspect it is a tiny fraction of those diagnosed. Most of them would be just fine with some more fresh air, exercise, supportive family unit, structure and sensible diet.

I am 24 will ADD and I think some people genuinely have attention problems. However, I believe that kids do not burn off energy like that used to by going outside to play. I think this can result in hyperactivity.

read up on indigo children. it explains a lot.
kids today are different that 20 years ago.
society wants kids to learn without asking questions, without any experience. how is that possible? how can we have kids learn to use their brains if we don't give them any stimulation?

attention deficit ( i do to if you try to tell me something i already know ) hyperactivity disorder ( you would think i was hyper when bored with someone telling me something i already know ).
