I am a team leader for a bunch of web developers, they all program in JAVA all day everyday.

The vending machines are pretty much used by the programmers. They love Mountain Dew and they drown themselves up with coffee.

I dont think its the soda they like, its the caffeine.

So yes, I think it keeps them efficient.

I think its still the planning stage of any major programming exercise which will make programmers any efficient. I will go for better use of the more established UML over the relatively new SODA.

No, it just keeps them awake.
Programmers, traditionally, worked in frantic bursts of activity, keeping long hours to get a job finished.... so they relied on drinks and foods high in sugar and caffeine to keep them going.
(Coke and Twinkies was the favourite in my day...)

These days, professional programming has become a 9-to-5 job, and techniques have been refined so that you can start and stop a job at any point without "losing your place".

Personally, I miss the all-nighters... but I'm older and healthier now :-)

maybe... but people are different, and some people may like soda, and some just might blatently dislike it, so it's hard to ask that question...
