You can get on the internet with the most crappiest computer using a modem dialup service.

The three types of ISPs are
1) DSL - need a landline
2) Cable - goes through your cable
3) Dialup - through phone line using modem

and now you can use a wireless card or adapter with like Verizon and get access to the internet anywhere you go.

If you have it available go with DSL or Cable internet. Most providers have a $25\mo package i price is an issue. I have had widows 3.1 on a 486sx50 connected to my cable modem\router.
I would say that if you are running any MAC, Linux, or windos 9X, ME, W2k, XP you should have enough computer to get online with very little if any headache.

A computer and a modem will get you connected.

I don't know where you live so it is hard to say who your three providers are.

I have available in Tennessee my choice of Dial Up, DSL or Cable.

I chose Cable because it is ten times as fast as DSL and 50 times as fast as dial up.
