All living creatures as well as humans are regarded as souls
Genesis 1:20 & 1:24 & 2:7
Babylonian teachings even in christendom dictate that the soul is something seperable from the body and immortal.

The soul is really the life force of all living.

But the book of Psalms reads that when a man dies:
Psalms 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish."
And a soul does die. Ezekiel 18:4 "Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die"

I look at the soul as being the interplay between matter and spirit. The brain operates much like a computer processor and has the mind overseeing its functioning. The physical, emotional and mental bodies are vehicles for expression of the soul. The impressions we receive from the soul may appear to us as irrational but once we come to an understanding of those impressions they are indeed rational. As we come to operate more and more under the influence of the soul we become an expression of soul life portrayed as wisdom and compassion.

It depends what you mean by a soul. If you are refering to the soul as something distinct from the body, then (assuming it exists) it would be pure reason.
