That's a really hard question. There are two breeds of chickens now that are sex linked chickens, the black sex link, and the red sex link. This means you can tell by the color of them. On all other breeds it's hard to tell. Most of the time a professionall chicken sexer is the only one that can tell for sure. I know a man that sexes chickens, and he squezes them right at the bottem of there stomachs untill there sex organs swell out and uses a microscope to tell. You can't do it if your not use to it though, or you might kill the chicken. When my chickens hatch I tell by flipping them up on there back. This don't work untill there about a week old, but the rosters will kick and panic when you filp them over, and the hens will just give up and lay there. It's not a hundred percent acurate, but I haven't messed up on many and I've used it on a lot of chickens.

Don't know myself, but if I had to guess it would probably be the color of the chicks. Rooster chicks are probably darker than hens, or vice versa.

usually the "pencil" test (pencil on a string held above the chicks stomach, boy will go side to side, female in a circle)

there is no way to tell by looking at them, they are all the same size, color, etc.

it's really not 100% though, most of the time they just sell you the chicks, at your own risk, and you have to hope for the best

Saw a show last night "worst jobs" and they were sexing day-old chicks. They had to squeeze their anal areas and make them poop. I missed the first of this so I don't know what the criteria was to know which was which. Sorry.

there are specific crosses that use sex linked traits to tell male from female by color or feathering.
It is possible to distinguish them by the umm rear end in baby chicks but its not a task that you can learn in a day over the internet.
