Previously in my last question it can easily be misinterpreted.. I am here in Iraq. I have no problem being here.. The question was worded wrong and I apologize.. I just want to know how you as US citizens view this war.. Do you think we are doing our job here or do you feel the way that the media depicts? Are you going to let the media speak for you or are you going to voice your own oppinion?

I hold you and all of the US soldiers in the highest regard for chosing to defend our country. I hate Bush and everything he stands for, and I disagree with this war and everything it represents. I want you and all of our boys home with your families, this has gone on long enough!

I think you are doing your job over there. I think however that this is not a war on terrorism, or to bring democracy to the region, but a war to improve our geo-strategic position in the Middle East and make a lot of money for the military industrial complex. Just look at a few stock charts of companies like Lockheed Martin, Halliburton and ExxonMobil, since Bush took office. This is all about oil. Take note that I am not making a judgment here on the validity of the war. Indeed, I probably would say that it is justified. We must go after this oil and try to stabilize the region. I just am not fooled by the attacks on the Trade Center, or WMD or Osama bin Laden...these were all excuses to get us in a position to secure our access to the oil.

I am a US Army veteran and served as a 97B (Counterintelligence Agent) in Germany from 1987 to 1990.

Greetings from the Yahoo Brain in New York City!
Hope you're watching the live Answers webcast at http://advision.webevents.yahoo.com/asktheplanet/brain.html !

First off, thank you for your service to our country. It means a lot to each and every one of us, to know you are out there protecting the freedoms we hold so dear.

My own younger brother just got back from a 4-year stint in the U.S. Marines, which included significant time in Afghanistan. We are very happy to have him home in one piece, and wish you the same luck.

As far as citizens' opinions on the war, like anything else involving 300 million people, it runs the gamut. Yes, there are going to be people who are vehemently opposed to war at any cost, and maybe this war in particular. Then there are going to be people who will support any action the government or the president takes, and think the war is a good thing. Maybe they even think it's great to being democracy to Iraq. I would say most people probably fall somewhere in the middle: While they're glad we did a good thing for them, they're concerned about the welfare of all you guys and gals, and would probably rather you you get home safe and end all the bloodshed.

Hope this helps, and good luck over there.

I think you guys are doing a great job and the soldiers have my full support. What I don't agree with is the war, I think going after Osama was the right idea but the rest of it was not our fight, it feels as if America has put its nose where it didn't belong. Also I'm tired of seeing families here and there suffer the loss of loved ones, no matter how well you aim or plan civilians to get caught in the mix on both sides. Thank you for going over to protect our country and I hope you return home safe to your family.

i feel that the war was wrong. saddam should have been taken off, but there were better ways to go about it. i know some of the things that go on in iraq. a friend of mine is also serving.
even though i hate how it was done it's already been started, to leave now would devastate the country.
is this how you feel the media portrays it? i don't know. i've stopped listening to the news because it's full of nonsense an only read newspapers, but the vibe i get from them is that they are pretty supportive of the war.

I prefer not to rely on the media...it is after all just one person's (or corporations) opinion and spin on things. They are in the business of making money not necessarily telling the truth. I don't think this is a winnable war. I back our government to a point. I back our military 100%. It's difficult to get the true facts and more difficult to decide if we're right or wrong. So, to some degree we're left with having faith that congress knows what needs to be done and I can accept that.

I personally support the war and our troops. I think it is something we needed to do whether there were weapons of mass destruction or not. It is terrible to lose so many troops but we can not let other countries think we would take something like 911 lying down.

May God bless and protect you!
