I dont think thats possible unless you do it the hard way.

You need to go to http://www.xdrive.com and you need to move all your files and data to their free 5 GIG file hosting site.

Then you need to use the other computer to download them back into your computer. If you use a modem, your IP addresses are not static and they are always changing so there is no way to network the computers and also, since they both need to dialup, you cant dialup both computers at the same time.

Even if you do connect the two computers together, you will still need to purchase additional equipment to get them to share files and the transfer rate would be the same as downloading it from the internet.

I think you should just install a file sharing program on both computers and just transfer it to each other.

The best way to connect 2 computers is using LAN Card but if u still use Modem then i say it is very bad idea due to very low band width.. now soloution is here...

u need 2 modems in both computers and 2 telephone lines...

now make dial up connection by using advance options so u will make 1 pc as host and other is guest or vise versa...

dial 2nd telephone number from dialup connection and other computer will receive ur call and connect each other...

if u want to get snaps of all this procedure then i can help u

please message me or reply me on my email...

thank you

Instead of messing with this, just take the easy way out and get a memory stick, then you can just move the loaded files from one computer to another with a whole lot less aggrevation... I know... I've done both... and now I just use the memory stick... as a plus benefit, I can send large programs with my daughter when she visits and asks for something to put on her computer at home.

I'm running Windows 98 on the desktop and Windows XP Professional on the new laptop...

Connect your notebook to your Desktop via crossover cable or hub. Next run the Internet Connection Wizard from the notebook and select "Connect to the internet thru another computer". Whne you attempt to access the internet thru your notebook the desktop will dialout to make the connect. You connect will go thru the crossover cable, instead of the notebooks modem, and thru the desktop computer's modem.

Option two would be to buy a dialup router and external modem and it will connect whenever either computer attempts to connect to the internet. This is an expensive solution and I would see if broadband is available or soon to be available before going this route.
