When snakes are being shot at or chased do they slither ahead in a straight path?

If running in a serpentine path works for us, would the opposite be true for a snake? Don't stick your forked tougue out at me.

Snakes may head straight if there is no cover.
Otherwise, they look for grass or a hiding place.
