Marketing is an area of business with really high returns for the time and effort invested, hence the high prices charged for marketing books / courses etc.
I spent a lot of time learning from Jay Abraham and it has helped me loads. Mostly I found his stuff second hand on ebay etc, but I have still spent a few 000 pounds on it.
The one place you might start with is Gary Halbert's newsletter. Mainly, it is about copywriting, but there is a lot of marketing info there too. The site is entirely free. It's where I started...

One thing you can do is learn email marketing. I found this site and they have a link to an email marketer and you can try if for 60 days at no charge. I have used it and it really is good.

The Library would be your best bet, make sure you check for creduble sources though,
