Actually what they played yesterday against the Czech Rep.was SOCCER !!! If they learned a little more about FOOTBALL maybe they would n't have been thumped by a weakened (through injury) Czech team. They didn't even have leading goal scorer Milan Baros and had to rely on midfield scoring from new Arsenal man Rosicky and a half fit Koller who had to leave injured. You Americans talk a lot of crap and thats what you are playing right now.Typical American performance all talk, hype and glitz but no substance. You ain't going home ranked 5th in the World now you have to play real teams!!!Obviously from the responses ignorance is bliss...wander along in your happy little soccer world you can have your own soccer World cup like the Super bowl,or World series where you are the only country represented...how ignomanical...at least you'll always be number one in your soccer cup playing against giants of football like Canada,Barbados,Trinidad,Barbados and Costa Rica! If you think things are going to get better...think again you play Italy next...0-2 and you'll be lucky to tie Ghana next...0-3 or 0-1-2 at best...at least you'll be home by Sunday just in time to catch the last day of the U.S. open because thats what you'll be doing back home next week GOLFING !!!

Well I am not American, I am English. I have noticed that some Americans don't like the fact that soccer is football.

(I guess you already know this but for the benefit of those reading who don't know):
Association football(soccer) is the oldest form of football still commonly played. Then there is rugby football, which has some similar rules to association football. Then there is American football, exactly the same as rugby only with padding(called American football so the Americans could pretend they invented it and pretend it was actually a different game)

You stupid prats. Why are the British such prudes? You don't even realise that you invented the word. Soccer came from socca which was an abbreviation of Football Association. The students at Oxford were calling socca, "soccer". They had an affinity for adding "er" to the end of many words.
Grow up clowns. Anyway, when you rule the world, as we do, we can call anything or anyone whatever we like. We're in charge here not you!!

Doubt the Yanks will ever see sense and stop using "football" to refer to their game involving helmeted, padded-up sissy boys running and throwing a ball over a line, instead of a sport that involves KICKING as the major means of play.

In Australia, there's a new push to refer to soccer as football. In fact, the governing body of the sport has changed it's name to Football Federation Australia, and some media outlets now refer to the Socceroos as our national football team.

Then again, in Australia "football" is used to describe three other sports as well (Australian Rules, rugby league and rugby union), so there isn't any universal agreement on where the term is used. Makes it easier for soccer to also claim it's (rightful) name.

I take it you are referring to North Americans!

The rest of America (south & central) already call it football, even in Portugues or Spanish, just slight alterations in spelling and pronouciation! Always football, never soccer!

What more can you expect from the narrow minded ones that live at the centre of the universe..?

By the way, since the USA football team is really now a first class international side, when are you yanks going to get rid of that dull to the extreme game you call "American Football"

My god that 'game' is dull!!

Embrase and feel the absolute delight and passion of football that exsists across the planet!

Simply no comparision...!!!!

I will as soon as the rest of the world realizes its not as great a game as American Football....or Basketball.... or Baseball.. so we really dont give a big rats butt what it is called....when the rest of the world figures out that these sports are a hell of allot more interesting we will all agree to call soccer football...but by then nobody will care.

The game is not called soccer, it's called football! Do you know, that only you, Americans call this game soccer, while all the rest of the world calls it football! For you football is rugby, and you accept that like it's your god! Please!
