I heard AVG is free and its really good. Its the only free one I know if you dont want to use the trial version of mcafee or norton.

Download it here: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

AVG is probably the bets free anti virus program, Zone Alarm is also one of the best free firewall programs.
I would suggest you do the following.
If you have no firewall get Zone Alarm and set it up.
next get AVG and set that up.
If you have a virus AVG will find it and fix it.
Get Spy-bot Search and destroy and run that, that will get rid of the spy ware and tracking cookies on your computer.
But remember that any program you have that relies on advertising to pay for it will be useless if you remove a part of it, these tend to be 'free' programs that you downloaded from the internet. Avg, zone alarm or spy-bot don't come into that catagory.
Be careful what you remove - ebay tool bars show up as being spyware with Spybot so dont remove anything youre not sure of.
Some viruses can be very resilient. So if you are sure you have a virus after all that go to the Microsoft web site and use the Malicious Software removal tool.

Good luck

kasperski from kasperski labs was rated as best but will cost you.

You need good anti virus, good firewall and any spywear softwear, keep it up to date.

Be very careful what you bown load or open up in emails... place everything in a folder and don't open it untill scanned...

To clear a computer if that dont work you have to format the whole thing which will clear everything. Make sure you have all the drivers (ie tells the comnputer how to work the monitor) before of you're fucked.

And all email settings etc.

norton is shite

Nothing is perfect

OPTION 1.First of all stop using your computer... go to your nearest retailer and talk to them..tell them why you suspect you have a virus..ask them if they will load it up..and "clean" your hard drive..
OPTION2. Sometimes you can get technicians that will advertise in the local press which will come out free of charge and you only have to pay for what they have fixed..eg repalcement parts..probably not in this case....but check he is qualified.. Ask him on the phone what virys software he uses?..then check the price out.
Option 3.
Buy McAfee Security Software..you can get the whole suite ie firewall Plus, Virus Scan Spam filters etc...and it is very user friendly.
or try McAfee.com you may also be able to get a free virus scan and trial period.. online the virus scan on its own is sold seperately..but you can get a Mcafee Suite which is alot cheaper usually from an online retailer..

CAUTION if you do want to install it yourself ...make a boot disc and dont forget to make a system restore point before installing any software...

OPTION LAST RESORT! using a large sledge hammer.....lol

The easy way to fix is to boot from your windows xp disk and reinstall windows xp. When you do the make sure you delete the partition and make a new one. Then get the best free antivirus avast. You can get it at www.majorgeeks.com After you reload windows you will have to load drivers for things like modems, lan cards, video cards etc. You will learn a little as you do it so go ahead and try!

I use AVG free. I think it's great as I have never had any problems with it at all.

As for the virus you already have, try AVG, if that doesn't work, then if you can give us any more info about the virus we may be able to come up with a virus specific solution to remove it.
