I think women in the US shave ( I can't answer for any other country) because it is expected of them by our culture. That said, why they started doing it is another question. That answer possibly lies with the advent of shorter skirts and silk stockings and with the obsession to look young (kids don't have body hair like adults do). I know that personally as a woman I rarely shave unless I'm going to be wearing a dress that exposes my legs so I do it to fit in with my culture at times when I will be judged on my appearance.

I shave my legs because I like the way it feels. It's not socially acceptable for a woman to have hairy legs nowadays.

having a hairy body is a masculine trait so women shave thier legs to be feminine

becuase girls feel great when they shave there legs, they like guys to feel how smooth there legs is, its really about being feminine, plus they make your legs look more toned!

hairy legs are unapealing, unatractive, off putting, embarrassing, manly, feel awlfu and are simply not lady like. that is why we shave our legs/wax/epilate etc
