Encourage the imagination! Play pretend with me, and encourage me to be silly.
When my kids were little, we set up the small dome tent in the back yard, and it become, well, everything. We blasted off to space in it, we explored the jungle using it as a base camp, we had fun in it.
We played. Together.

There isn't really enough info here to properly answer this question, but I'm going to try. when I was a little kid I wanted my parents to give me everything I wanted even if it wasn't good for me, I wanted them to let me do anything that I wanted and not be punished.
Now as a parent I feel it is important that we reassure our children that they are loved, listen to them, teach them how to be safe and keep them safe from all harm, give them a home full of love, it doesn't matter if it is a 2 parent or 1 parent home as long as it is happy and full of love. Teach them that there are consequences for everything in life. raise them to say their manners, and have table manners. These may seem minor but these few things will carry them a long way in life. Make sure they can come and talk to you about anything with out getting in trouble. Make sure you teach them about drugs sex and violence.
Children don't need to have materail things as much as thier need for values, love , a safe home, cared for, and hugs and kisses etc.
Remember your children are a reflection of you as a parent.

I remember wanting my parents to attend my sporting events, which they did. I also remember the trips to the ice cream store. I wanted my parents to be proud of the things I did. We were raised to not be materialistic. I learned at a young age to appreciate having my family around me, spend time with me, and make me feel like a part of the family. I saw too many other kids whose parents were never around and I felt sorry for them.

My mother was a college student studying teaching when I was little. I always found it fun to do the learning activities she'd bring home. If you make learning fun, the kids will do it.

To stop trying to make me a clone of my girly sister. I'm a tomboy and I like to read. I am not interested in nail polish, doing my hair, frilly dresses, or giggling gossip.

I wanted them to play with me more and be interested in the things I was interested in. I wanted to feel accepted for being myself. Just to show a genuine interest in me.
