I suggest that you get hold of a guitar tutor book like "Teach yourself the guitar" and work through the book fairly slowly. You will probably find that the fingers of your left hand will develop blisters from pressing on the frets, but with time these should disappear.

Although you might want to learn fast it is better to try to build up your technique slowly and make sure that you are comfortable with one lesson before you move on to the next one. Lots of people learn to strum a few chords on the guitar, but it takes time and effort to learn to play it really well.

That used to be taught to me by way of a guitar picker that used to be a instructor, Younger than me..and means bigger. Should of had courses! Take courses! I feel they name that sample, Travis prefer? Not definite, however takes a even as to prefer up. Took me 6 months of everyday train to be trained. I practiced EVERY DAY to be trained that. But, I find it irresistible and use it with the whole thing I play and I find it irresistible. It rather has modified my existence. Doyle Doaks makes use of it too, however he provides melody on best of it. I can upload melody, however handiest with my thumb. He makes use of his thumb and palms and to inform you the reality, you are not able to coach that. It's a God-given reward. I am thankful and in awe of persons like Doyle Doaks. Find some guitar tabs of your favorite songs. Most sites will have instructions on how to read tab, it is very straightforward. Perhaps if you get really into it you could think about getting some lessons eventually, but for now there are plenty of resources on the internet to get you started

plenty of people learn to play it by memorizing like three chords or a couple of bar chords...
and they're always terrible outside the box of the songs they already know. do yourself a favour and learn properly--you'll have a better time and be able to play with more people when you get there. but, if all you want to do is play round a campfire, there are heaps of how-to books at the music shops with hand positioning and stuff.

The quicker you begin - The quicker you'll learn!

You can learn basic chords in the very 1st lesson...and instantly begin to play easy songs using those chords.

How long it takes...depend on how good you want to get!

Carlos Santana, for example,...a master guitarist - Considers himself still to be learning!

that actually depends on your instructor and yourself...

if you are really eager to learn and will follow with the lessons fast and easy, provided that the instructor is regularly monitoring your progress then i say it is fast to learn guitar

but if you are the complete opposite then i guess itll really take a long time

cheers
