They have several white or European princesses. They also have Middle Eastern (Jasmine), Asian (Mulan) and Native American, yet no Black or African Princess, I wonder why is this?

To answer some of the answers thus far. Yes there are Black/African Princesses, how can you have entire continent with many countries comprised of Royalty and NOT have any Black princesses??? They do exist. Also it is important to young Black females to see someone who looks like them, this does work psychologically. Finally, to the person who said that Mulan and Pochontas weren't princesses, they most certainly were. There father's were emperors and a chief, you need to re-watch them and also re-read history about Pochontas.

Did I miss something. Didn't they just remake Cinderella with Brandy as the lead. That was Disney. I'm pretty sure of it. They also own Touch Stone which I thought backed "Coming to America". Are we limiting ourselves to cartoons? Wait for a Proud Family Movie and it will dawn upon them. The truth is you need a known story. So far they have used only stories that have already been popular. There aren't any stories of African princesses saving the world, or if there are they are not well known. First, write the story, then let them buy it off of you. Of course there is another problem. If you watch the Proud Family you notice it is hard make the graphics look just right. And there will be those who see the characters anf think that they are not black enough. Think Spike Lee and School Daze. It might be best for Spike Lee to take this idea as well. He has hlready paved the way for his visions. Then again they have already worked with Eddie Murphy, Hauted House, so that might help out. BTW, what about Chris Rock and Warner Brothers, Osmosis Jones or Will Smith and Pixar Shark Tales. There is a movement in that direction if you look at the voices used. Like it has been said what you need is a black story. Try something to deal with solving hunger and go from there. You will find your princess, Just keep looking.
PS. Mulan was not the emporer's daughter, she was a warlord's daughter, the equivalency of a duke or a knight. And if you look it up she wasn't in the original story either. I have, she is more like a farm girl. As for Pocahontas, she was a cheif's daughter. And, it doesn't matter if she is included in the princess collection by Disney, but; I don't think that either of them are in that collection. If it matters, the princesses are Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Jasmine. So actually, only one princess is not white. If that matters. Really it doesn't. Neither is the fact that there are black princesses. The point is they have to have a story or you have to make one up.

Why do people ask such stupid questions? When will people stop caring about race. I hope one day a black women could see a white princess and not think she is white or they are different. For another thing, Mulan was not a princess either was the Pocahontas. It is nothing to do with business or racism. I am sure Disney will do a carton movie on some African fable with a black princess. But just because they haven't doesn't mean they are being racist. There are serious problems with racism that need to be taking care of but black princess and Disney is a insult to the real problems.

THERE ARE BLACK PRINCESSES. Fact, there is one residing in Europe. Prince Maximilian von und zu Liechtenstein married Angela Brown a beautiful Black woman. Who is know Princess Angela Brown of Liechtenstein. They also have a son who is an adorable bi racial prince. Blacks spend money at Disney the same as everyone else. Should there be a Black, Hispanic, or a princess from some other ethnicity? Definitely, every little girl regardless of race needs a positive self image upon which to identify.

Wow there seem to be some unenlightened people answering your question. (Not all of the people)
They either see the world one way or they say something like, "Well at least Disney is doing this or that."
I do agree with you and with some people who said that a good idea would be to come up with a story and sell it to Disney.
Do some research on African Royalty (Past and Present) and base it on what you read but make it fun for kids but also informative at the same time.
And if you do, make sure that they do get the whole spectrum of complexions of black women.

I agree. I think you should look up wwwWaltDisneyIncorporation.com, and make a suggesiton, for them to have more black characters, involved with Disney. After all this isn't the "Dinasaur Days" anymore. And, the Black race is probably atleast 1/4 of the Disneyland customer population. Dont give up yet, try whatever you can. Get other black friends to write in as well, then maybe they'll finally see the need is obviously greater, then they thought, and they'll even make some moola off of their investment. Give it a try! Good-Luck!!

Maybe you should write a letter to Disney and state your opinion so there will be a black Princessfor children to look up to and admire. If Disney is pure evil and racist as many of you said then why would they have the show "Thats so raven" If what your all saying is corerect then Raven would be white withe a white family and white friends. Anybody can be a princess, its just that Disney Princess' are all married to a PRINCE,or was a princess to begin with(Jasmine) Please think about this!

Uhhhh never really thought about it. Just assumed that since most princess stories came from Europe or Asia that's who they had. Perhaps you could send the Disney writers a some books on African folk lore that includes princesses and they just might make such a movie.

I can't think of why this should be. Perhaps they should make a film of their stage musical play Aida. In the story which is based on an opera, an Ethiopian princess is taken as a slave by Egyptians and a captian of the army falls in love with her. I saw the play in Chicago before it went to Broadway and enjoyed it very much. The music was written by Elton John, and that says a lot.
