There are so many other beliefs in America. Why not just stick with basic laws. Like not killing or stealing. Not those banning gays getting married for example. Who really cares what they do and what they call it. It's not hurting you physically or degrading the moral fiber. You could argue that cheating does that. If they pass laws like that then they should go across the board and make laws punishing those unfaithful to their husbands or wife, right?

You only gave one example of these laws us mean Christians are trying to pass, apparently to impose our beliefs on you, so I guess that is the only one I can respond to.... Gay marriage.

First let me say that marriage historically is generally religious, and has always been between a man and a woman. Now if you want to talk about a civil unions, then the question is raised, why is that only for couples? Why can't a brother and sister carry the benefits (insurance, etc.) if Tom and Jerry can? The "marriage" isn't anything but a piece of paper.

But if you want to take it there... you say that banning gay marriage is something that Christians are doing to impose their beliefs... Are you aware that the second gays are given the right to get married EVERY "alternative lifestyle" will sue for the same rights... Judging by your question you haven't thought about this to much, but have you considered the societal affects on society if polygamy is legalized? What if I feel like having 10 wives, with 10 kids each and of course need welfare to pay for all of them (that's just the quickest simple example... but I think you can let your imagination carry you further). What if I insist that I was born attracted to dogs and only dogs... "Who are you to say I wasn't born that way?!" Why can't I marry a dog that I'm in love with? If one "alternative lifestyle" gets rights, why not me? (quick side note, a woman in India married a snake this week)

Anyway, this is just such a stupid discussion... But just consider the fact that anyone can claim to be naturally born and attracted to anything and demand the same rights as gays the second gay marriage is legalized, under "equal protection".

Countries should be liberal, I agree. Governemnts’ job is to maintain order by providing laws that protect people (from getting harmed in any way). Morals are something else. In your country you have some great rules for that.
However, the societies are also held together by common values, and in the U. S. it is the idea of the W. A. S. P. If so many people agree in something so much, it creates a political pressure. Democracy’s fault is that the majority can opress the minority.
By the way, a couple of days ago asked a question here why do Americans oppose gay marriages, and the only reason was religious.
As for the marriages, gays can’t have a religious one, that’s obvious. Now the problem is with state marriages. Usually couples are given benefits not because of moral reasons but demographic. In case of gays that policy would be only a waste of money. (In overpopulated countries it could work).
My suggestion is that gay couples without children should not be supported financially, but I would allow gay marriages.

I thought the basic law being enforced was more basic: Man cleaving unto woman, that is, marriage defined as a relationship between woman and man. The way it "hurts" as you define it, is in aschewing heteronormativity. It's not aimed at preventing hurt, but in allowing a tradition to continue. It's an attack from homosexuality on heterosexuality, and even in the offense, the defense demands they are the ones being "hurt." It's a very clever tactic.

They try to change the world in a way that they see as positive. The world they want is defined by their belief in god...there's really nothing wrong with that. Everyone has theories on how the world should be.. don't knock them just because their beliefs are based on a religion. At least it's better than other religions in the world that try to impose their beliefs on you through violence.

Because gay union is against what the Bible teaches.
Where do you draw the line if you're a Christian Country?
You have to stick to basic laws granted but then some **** comes along & wants to add something against the Bible.
Man shalt not lay down with fellow man & some hard-line Christians are not going to just accept it are they?

I am a Christian and unlike many Christians I do not believe in a theocracy or legislating my religious beliefs on others...god granted us all free will and the same should be granted to all people Jesus didnt come trying to legislate laws on people but to overcome sin and to offer forgiveness of sin to those who believed in him and accepted his sacrifice for there sins...When Christians try to legislate there ideas of morality they are not following the examples of Jesus....and God teachs us that all of our righteousness are as filthy rags to him.
