To keep their ears warm. As anyone acquainted with aviation or basic physics knows, the pilot's helmet has never been intended to provide protection against a crash.

Probably that's the way how they say 'cheese' before Kamikaze or they want to die with their helmet so they will look good, eh?

the wearing of helmets was to protect the pilot from the elements, the wind, and to retain the earphones. they were too flimsy to protect the wearer from battle damage.

Japanese are traditionally very concerned with ceremony and good form. Samurai would attend to their hair and clothes and put on rouge to maintain the appearance of good health.

By dressing appropriately for their role, they show how seriously they take it.

Also, even though they are going to die, if they were constantly reminded of that fact, it would become harder for them to fly the plane to its target

They worn helment because the air is thinner at that heights which they flown before going down. Their breathing appriatise was built into their helment so they wouldnt pass out.

to protect them of course, they are suicidal, yes. but of course, you don't want to die before you could accomplish your mission, right? so they wear helmets so that they would be 'safe' as they fly towards their target.

example, the 'terrorists' of 9/11... they fight for their safety though they know that they would kill themselves anyway. that's because the 'right time' of their death is when they reach their targets, the world trade for example.

May be they're not afraid to die, but they aren't stupid. They are willing to die but they do not want to have a foolish way to die.

If they must to die, they must want to die for honor (for they country or their believes and ideals) or to do a jihad (to die for God).

And the reason for wearing a helmet, you could see another answers, they're good answers.

Because if they didn't find a US ship to crash into they didn't want to get a head injury that would keep them from dying without honor!!!!
