My friends husband tragically died from cancer a few days ago, he was only 40 and left two young children behind, I want something touching but not trite, spiritual but not overtly religious to write in a card for them, any ideas?

All is well

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be for ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was: there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.

All is well.

Just write from the heart but do it on a spare piece of paper until you get it right before you put on the card. You can always say how terribly sad you are that he was taken so young and that your deepest sympathies lie with her and the children. Also, let her know that you are there if she's needs a friend or someone to talk to. Don't say that time will help her deal with it all (it doesn't and they don't want to know about that). Hope this helps.

Love is Stronger Than Death

"Me and my friend were walking
In the cold light of mourning.
Tears may blind the eyes but the soul is not deceived
In this world even winter ain't what it seems.

Here come the blue skies.
Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high and the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Love is stronger than death.

In our lives we hunger for those we cannot touch.
All the thoughts unuttered and all the feelings unexpressed
Play upon our hearts like the mist upon our breath.
But, awoken by grief, our spirits speak
'How could you believe that the life within the seed
that grew arms that reached
And a heart that beat.
And lips that smiled
And eyes that cried.
Could ever die?'

Here come the blue skies. Here comes springtime.
When the rivers run high and the tears run dry.
When everything that dies.
Shall rise.

Love is stronger than death."

We Grieve With You
by: Leona I. Miller

Your loved one has left this world
And has taken that Heavenly flight
It's supper-time there in Heaven
Where there's no parting nor night.

It was difficult to say "good-bye"
To the one you loved so very much
Trust in God and His divine plan
We hope you feel His gentle touch.

We pray God will Comfort you
And send Angels from above
Giving sweet peace within your heart
Surrounding you with Eternal Love.

We are sorry for your deep loss
There's so little we can find to say
You are in our thoughts and prayers
As we grieve with you today.

I am very sorry for your loss at this sad time.
There is a beautiful (non religious) prayer that starts off ....
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousands winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

So young,
but in the eyes of the world,
O so old.
His time has passed,
ours still comes.

Young ones, old ones
gather round.
Our beloved is no longer earthly bound.

But fear not,
for in death we see
the release of this world
and the passage into Heaven to be.

Now is our time for tears,
but let them not pass through the years.

Fear not, you who are left behind.
For to you this life will yet be kind.

I wrote that myself!

Though right now, you feel a pain that is indescribable
know that your loved one is looking down on you with admiration and love,
the time you spent together, although fleeting,in your own mind
will in no way compare to the time you will have to spend apart,

( insert name here ) will always be with you, everywhere you go and in everything you do, he will be the smiles on your childrens faces, the wind in your hair, when you look up at the stars at night, whisper his name as he will hear it, and hold you as you sleep.

He is not gone
please do not weep......

Yeah I find it good to have time in peace and quiet with pen and paper and write what is in your heart! Something will come its always best to write what you feel about the person you know rather than putting no feeling in it and just copying something down. Sorry you have this sad news.

He was a Father, Husband and Friend,
You know his love will never end,
Though your heart be still incased in pain,
Look on with hope for not in vain,

You may never lose the memory of how he fell ill,
Just know in your heart, He loves you still

My deepest condolences . . .
