It is an excellent city to live in, but like all places it is what you make of it. In my experience I've noticed that all the people who complain about the city don't really know the city. They aren't happy with their neighborhood, but they don't consider moving to another one. They are bored with the bars and restaurants closest to them, but they refuse to check some a little farther away. They say there is nothing to do, but they never read the Scene, Free Times, or Friday Magazine in the Plain Dealer to find things to do. The people who actually know the city and the metropolitan area love it. It surprisingly has all the amenities and options of a bigger city without the traffic and high prices. Whatever you are in to, or whatever lifestyle you'd like to live- you can do it in Cleveland.

The parks, housing stock, cultural institutions, suburban school districts, and hospitals are probably the metro-areas greatest assets- and hold some impressive national rankings. The area has restaurants, bars, sports, and shopping that can't really be complained about.

There was a lot of press towards the end of last year when the prestigeous Economics Intelligence Unit ranked Cleveland as the most livable in the U.S.

"LONDON, England (CNN) -- Vancouver is the world's most desirable place to live, according to a new survey, while Papua New Guinea's Port Moresby is at the other end of the scale.
The EIU study assessed nearly 40 indicators in five broad categories -- stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Although higher crime rates and a greater threat of terror puts U.S. cities below those of Canada, U.S. cities are still among the world's most livable. Cleveland and Pittsburgh had the highest American scores."

As to the 'poorest city' title that was brought up- it was later determined that was a flawed study or something, because Cleveland went drastically down on that list the following year. The other thing about Cleveland is that the land area that encompasses the city is actually very small compared to other cities. There are over fifty municipalities in Cuyahoga County, and if it were any other area- many of these municipalities would actually be a part of the central city. So the entire metro-area often gets slammed for its political geography.

"The county has 41,887 "millionaire households," making it the 33rd-wealthiest county in the United States, according to data released Tuesday by TNS Financial Services," PLAIN DEALER. Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

Cleveland is a great place to live to get a little of everything. The people are among the nicest anywhere and the cost of living is very very reasonable for what is offered in the area.

Are you looking for outdoor activities...try boating, sailing and swimming on Lake Erie, or maybe one of their many surrounding metroparks., or maybe a trip to Amish country or wine country on the far east side of cleveland.

Neighborhoods....very diverse, try Little Italy, Slovenian/hungarian neighborhoods, Slavic Village, Ohio City, West side market, Coventry,Tremont arts district, Beachwood, near east side, and surrounding suburbs..

Cultural Events..try the Cleveland Orchestra (one of the best in the world), playhouse square, the art museum, art galleries on the west side, university circle.

Entertainment...limitless..improv comedy club, hip jazz and blues clubs, dance clubs,

Sports....Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavs.

I could go on and on, but it is a fantastic city and very underrated. The summers are unbelievably beautiful there, rolling hills, lush landscapes and scenic sunsets off the lake. The winters are true winters with beautiful thick snow coverings from the lake effect snow. Cleveland has a little of everything and you would love it.

I live in Cleveland. If you like the noise and closeness of the city it's great, however if you have kids, the schools suck. A lot of the suburbs are nice, and there's a variety of ethnic areas, too. Overall not a bad city, but personally I prefer living in the country.

Forbes.com's Misery Measure takes into account unemployment, taxes (both sales and income), commute times, violent crime and how a city's pro sports teams have fared over the past two years. It also factors in two indexes put together by Portland, Ore., researcher Bert Sperling that gauge weather and Superfund pollution sites. Lastly, it considers corruption based on convictions of public officials in each area as tracked by the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice.

I've lived here my whole life and it is pretty nice. Of course, I'm living in the subarbs of Cleveland. We have cold winters when people get out of the house to go skiing and warm summers when people go swimming in the pool or Lake Erie (the summers here are great because they aren't to warm and to cold).

Um...no. I moved from there nearly five years ago. Hated most things about it, especially the whole racial east-side/west-side thing they have going on there. Lots of nepotism in the court/judicial/elected offices/police departments. Everybody is related to everybody, it seems. There are many poor people who reside there, sometimes in CMHA housing that is boarded up on one side that is unoccupied. Crime rate was pretty high when I was there as well. It's not what they say it is - look at the statistics.
