My roomate smokes (Marlboro) and it makes the house and my clothes wreak. It's really embarrising. She's trying to quit and she bought an air purifier and uses candles and stuff but it's not working. I can take my clothes out and wear them straight out of the drier but they still have the smell. I'll be in this house with her for the next couple of years and I really need some kind of advice. please?

Ask her to smoke outside, or keep windows open for more ventilation, or ask her to smoke only in her room with the windows open. Outside of keeping yourself away from the smoke, there is no way to stop the smell.

Add baking soda to the wash, Also if you have carpet put it on the floor and leave it for a couple of hours and then vacuum. Things that can't be washed can be sprayed with febreeze. She should be willing to be considerate and smoke only outside. She can try to use the patch or the gum to hold her over when she's inside or if she wants to quit. Unfortunately, if she does not agree to smoke only outside, nothing will be able to get all of the residual smoke smell out. Good luck.

Other than insisting she smokes outdoors as a show of respect, buy yourself a small bottle of febreze. Carry it around with you and spray it when you have left the house along with spraying on all fabric in the house including carpets, curtains, bedspreads etc. It takes the smell of smoke out and is not too strong a smell to 'scent' you of flowers all day.

Fabreeze your clothes. It's probably the best thing for getting rid of the smell of smoke. But aside from that, ask your roommate to be a bit more considerate as to where she smokes - as in, don't let her smoke everywhere around the house, or make her go outside.

Firstly, you can ask her to smoke outside. It's not that much to ask of her.

Secondly, there are products on the market that can help you deal with the smell. I would suggest Febreze - it comes in a spray bottle and removes unwanted odours from fabrics very quickly. It's also not that expensive, which makes it even better.

But I know that Tomato can get rid of skunk smells...so try dabbing your clothes in that....um..I'd go with the yahoo-search first. LOL. Sorry. Don't want you to ruin your clothes.

Make her smoke outside...not only is she ruining the smell of your clothes, she is ruining your lungs. Second-hand smoke is one of the leading causes of lung cancer.
