My fiance and I have this exact relationship. I'm a very girly girl, into fashion, preppy, fairly conservative, and an active Christian. He was raised in an aggresively atheistic house, is in a punk band that's been kicked out of every club in town, has multiple tattoos, and votes the Libertarian ticket. When we first started dating, none of our friends thought it would last because we're so ridiculously different. Sometimes people who seem to be complete opposites attract because they have such a variety of things to learn from each other, or because they see characteristics or strengths in the other person that they'd like to have. And, deep down, you probably have the important things in common. We can never agree on what to watch on TV, but we have similar views on really important issues, like education, money, how to practice our very different religions, and family. I think the best relationships are the ones that open you up to new experiences, but still allow you to be exactly who you are.

I had a best friend named Christie for most of my life, until I was about 19 or 20 yrs old. I was white and she was black. I was a virgin when she was a ho. She seemed to be a little more outgoing and I was quiet and shy. I moved away from all that and the last thing I heard about her was that she was a crackhead and had about 5 kids all by different fathers, she has been spending most of her time in jail on drug charges. I am glad that her opposite qualities didn't all rub off on me.

I have a Goth friend. We hang out at his "place of choice" once a month - he hangs out with me once a month.
it's kind of funny...he'd say I was loud and confident....he's most definately more quiet...and maybe a little shy.
Kind of fun having a friend that's different isn't it?
Enjoy the diversity of life!

My girlfriend and I are kind of the same. I mean, I'm a party animal, and she doesn't drink or party, I'm out going, and usually the life of the party and she is very shy. I wouldn't worry too much about it, you guys are friends because of who you are, not because of who you hang out with or how you dress. Don't dwell on it too much.
