no, the only painful part is the IV that is established before hand, the person recieving the injection then gets a series of 3 drugs, a barbiturate called sodium pentothal that puts them to sleep its like a super sedative, then they get a drug called pavulon that will paralyze all of the muscles of the body for quite sometime including muscle required to breath, then they get a massive dose of potassium chloride which blocks the conduction of the heart causing it to slow until it stops. So yes they feel the IV, they feel the first drug go in which may or may not burn a little then they are in a comatose state from then on and feel nothing.

Is this the best way to do it i dont know, if you look at it from a stand point of euthenasia such as with animals they dont understand the differences in methods so for them a very traumatic thing to do is to use lethal injection because they are being held down and stuck with a needle their stress level rises and they dont know whats going on, if you place that same animal in a gas chamber they are not near as stressed and they just kind of go to sleep, i have seen animal euthenasia done before both ways while i worked at a city now if you do this to a human completely opposite effect i would think and there would be one hell of a public outcry if we started to use a gas chamber again.

Those are the 2 forms of accepted capitol punishment, electricution, firing squad, hanging and beheading are the other forms that have been used for execution but with those it is a hit or miss type of thing its not 100 percent all the time and is painful especially electricution or firing squad, firing squad because bullets hurt and electricution causes spasms of every muscle in your body and takes quite a bit of time to kill you say 30-45 seconds of electricution and if that doesnt work they do it again until it does. btw those spasms of the muscles can be so bad that they will break bones. so in my opinion if its a human use lethal injection if its an animal use a gas chamber

It creates a lot of pain. It's not supposed to be pleasant. But then again, the people who receive these injections have usually been sitting on death row for decades wasting taxpayer dollars and appealing thier sentences over and over again, and they didn't seem to mind raping or murdering people. So I can't feel sorry for them.

Better method? Bullet to the temple. Quick, easy, cheap, instantaneous.

Know one really knows if lethal injection is painful, every person who has ever received one is unavailable for comment.

~Didn't hurt me, and I've done it 6 times now. Beats the heck out of that guillotin business. And Ole Sparky is enviornmentally unfriendly.

Ok... call me stoopit, but I'm thinkin' if the injection is LETHAL, the person ain't gonna be around to let us know if it hurts or not, I dunno, that's just my first thought.
