After washing them in the sink, should I:

Leave them to drip-dry on the draining board - exposed to the air and all the pollution that it holds?

Dry them immediately with a dish towel - which will get progressively dirtier?

and why?

You should not worry so much about it and do whatever is convenient at the moment.

Dry them with a dish towel as soon as they're washed. Yes, it will progressively get dirtier, but it's not like the dishes aren't washed, is it?! A dish towel is perfectly hygienic and will be fine for a couple of weeks so long as it's not used for anything else.

If you use a dishwasher and leave them to dry they will have water marks from the water used to wash them, and wont look clean and will have some dirty water on them.

Life's too short to dry dishes. I always wash up with water that's almost too hot to put my hands in then leave dishes to dry while I do something else for half an hour. By the time I come back the dishes have dried from the heat so I can put them away.

Leave them to air dry...There is far more risk of cross contamination when using a kitchen towel...

Why not get a dishwasher?

They wash at very hot temperatures, then allow the dishes to dry in a concealed, clean environment. You will find that the dishes always sparkle too.

Never ever use a cloth to wipe them! The most hygenic way...unless you have a dishwasher... is to always rinse in very hot water and as already stated, leave to dry, which will only take a minute. Dish clothes are a no, no is any good kitchen.

If you are worried about being exposed to polluted air, they will be exposed whether you let them air dry or dry with a towel. Unless of course, you live in a vacuum

i dry mine by letting them drip dry in the drainer!I Do not like dish towels because once they get wet u are leaving water on the dishes and so i think it is pointless.

The most hygienic and eco-friendly way to dry them is to let them drip. I hope you're using 'green' washing up liquid too! alternatively, get a cleaner.

use a clean teatowel to dry them, always put the towel in the washing machine afterwards and use a clean one next time,
if u leave them drip drying, flies can land on them, dust etc. its best to dry them straight away.
