Let us assume that ‘x’ be the number of cows ,
And ‘y’ be the number of chickens.

Now since the number of heads is 81,
So we can say that,
x + y = 81 ………………..Equation 1
Also The number of legs is 252. Since cow have 4 legs , therefore '4x ' and chicken have 2 legs , therefore '2x'
So we can say that,
4x + 2y = 252
or 2( 2x+y ) = (126)2
Cancelling ‘2’ both the sides ,
We get,
2x + y = 126 ………………..Equation 2

Now, subtracting Equation 1 from Equation 2.
We get,
2x + y = 126
x + y = 81
- - -
______________
x = 45
________________

Since,
x + y = 81 ………………..Equation 3
and also we get
x = 45

Subsituting the above value in Equation 3

WE GET,
y = 36

Answer- We get number of cows = 45
And number of chickens = 36

Let Cows be X
Let Chicken be Y

Therefore,
X + Y = 81 (Given) (Equation 1)

Further,
4X + 2Y = 252 (Cows have 4 legs, Chicken have 2) (Equation 2)

Solving these two equations;

X + Y = 81 or 2X + 2Y = 192...(1)
4X + 2Y = 252...(2)

2Y is cancelled and 2X = 90
=> X = 45 = Number of Cows

Putting value of X in any equation, we get Y = 36

Therefore, cows are 45; Chicken are 36. (Answer)

Well, if you have 81 heads and 252 legs I would guess you are going to one heck of a feast :). But seriously now; you would have 45 cows and 36 chickens.

easy 45 cows and 36 chicken
Let say 'x' is th enumber of chicken
'y' th enumber of cows

1) Then x+y= 81
=> x=81-y

2) on legs
2x+4y= 252
=> x= 126-2y

use 1) & 2)

126-2y= 81-y
=> y=45
=> 45 cows
chinckens= 81-45, =>36 [sorry i did not put down the whole process but i guess it is understandable, nice question ]
