Our government is doing it because there are a few people out there that don't want something to happen because its in their point of view that something is a "SIN" . So they are going to try to stop them from committing a sin, just because they don't like it. In my personal opinion I think that you should be able to be married if you are straight, gay, lesbian or what ever. I mean it's not like it is really any of anyone eles's business what you do with your life.

For one, because the government, mostly Bush, screwed up so badly in Iraq. Since most Bush followers (or ex-followers) are devout christians, sending out a message that Bush and the Republicans are against homosexual relationships may earn some support for the Republican party which they desperatley need if they even want to think about winning another election in the next 20 years.

It's called misdirection. Like when a magician does some flourish with his right hand so you don't see what his left hand is doing.

We're supposed to look at the shiny gay marriage amendment (and the recent flag burning amendment), and not look at the indictments, corruption, economic problems and low poll ratings of this administration.

Because they can't make decisions on more important stuff and all their lemming freinds are hyped about it. If it doesn't affect them, why should they care? We don't know. They don't know, but we're not supposed to know that.
