Given many of the answers so far, it seems ordinary American people are not that decent after all. In fact they appear to be hate-filled racists who support their Government's use of a concentration camp, detention without trial, kidnapping and rendition to third countries that engage in torture etc.
There are strong parallels here with what went wrong in Germany between the two great wars.
For God's sake Americans - wake up! Protest in your millions against Guantanamo and let the people of the World see that you are not all latent Nazis, filled with a grievance and obsessed with militarism and dominance at all costs.

Did anyone in the middle of WWII think we should be releasing captured SS officers back to Germany? or even putting them on trial before the end of the war? They were interregated until we thought they had no more useful intelligence, then put in prison camps till the end of the war, ONLY THEN did we put them on trial or repatriate them.
Today we have folks in prison camps & we're not calling them POWs. Okay, that's fine I guess, it's better for them. As I recall the Geneva convention says peope dressed like civilians or using them for sheilds in combat against a uniformed enemy may be freely executed upon capture. The distinction however does not make them exclusively criminals awaiting a speedy trial. The least among them should be held & treated to the same degree they would treat our troops until there is no more Islamic extremism in the world, and then those guilty of war crimes should be put on trial & further imprissoned, transfered in criminal custody to their home country or any other requesting their extradition, or executed if appropriate. These are not US citizens, and this is a war, the enemy in the field is not subject to US civilian law, but the international rules of armed conflict. I don't know if you've ever seen any of these people, but they are not nice guys trapped in a bad situation, they are the kind of people you get the same feeling with as you would interviewing a serial killer.

LMAO ... wow an Islamic group that thinks USA is being mean to Muslims. WOW what a shocking conclusion ... that's like PETA doing an "in depth study" and concluding that *drum roll* eating meat is bad. IT IS A SELF SERVING STATEMENT! Why do you libs always use these trash "studies" as your references?
Speaking of libs ... compairing Bush administration and policies to Nazi Germany. You guys really do all drink the same kool-aid don't you. Grow up and get an education.
Of course this UK Muslim wants Guantanamo closed. He wants his fellow terrorists released and free to cause more destruction. These people are animals and should be treated as such. Yeah yeah yeah, so a few of the guys in custody are innocent, so what? They have been released. But of course people how want Gitmo closed conveniently forget that the vast majority of inmates in Gitmo do have ties to terrorists. Gitmo needs to stay open. We either keep these dogs locked up or they will go right back to blowing up innocent people. Simple choice.

If the Marine base in Guantanamo were run by Nazi SS then the prisoners there would have told all that they know and then be shot within the first 24 hours of their incarceration.
The towel heads that are incarcerated there are living under better conditions than they would ever have in their native land.

ok i admit it im not american but im gonna answer anyway.
i find it distressing in the extreme that Bush can claim 'moral leadership' and scandal after scandal in iraq, and the continuing presence on guantanamo bay. i went to cuba in february, and people there are sickened by its presence. The U.S simply cannot claim that there are for freedom, democracy etc whilst guantanamo stays open, people are treated like animals. what they do there is just as barbaric as the people they claim to be fighting. furthermore, they are held without any trials and 6 people have been freed after 2 years or more, and have not been charged because the u.s HAVE NO EVIDENCE. they just wanted to look tough after 9/11.
lastly, what they must realise is that guantanamo is simply breeding another generation of mainly muslims who are (rightly) very angry with the west and thei so called democracy. this can only lead to more violence and terror.
CLOSE IT DOWN GODDDAMIT!

Its illegal, stupid, and hypocritical.
If someone was holding american citizens without charge or trial, you can bet they would all be up in arms about it. The double standards make me sick.
It is illegal, the US are abusing human rights - the whole world thinks they should stop, so they aren't all wrong, the US is.
Why aren't US citizens demonstrating against this abuse? This jail should be stopped immediately, and people either charged or let go. You can't just kidnap people and hold them indefinitely - where is the ethics and morals in that.
I repeat - this is absolutely disgusting of a so-called civilised nation to behave in such an abhorrent fashion.

Unless we the people enforce our Constitution on the people who are suppose to uphold defend and preserve it. Unless we demand that they honor their oaths. It will not only be the hostages in guantanamo who face dark futures. We the people will find ourselves in the very place that the hostages are in now. Not only is it a shameful what this admininstration has done to those poor people, it is also criminal. If they are guilty charge them with a crime, If they are POW's then honor the gueneva conventions. It was mostly Americans who came up with the rules of the gueneva conventions, we are a signatory of that treaty. Which according to our very own Constitution makes it the supreme law. It also makes it a law that George W. Bush must follow. failure to do so is considered an act of treason. Why has not one person step forward to charge him with the acts of treason he has committed against the citizens of America and against foreign nationals? If America does not take action against this imposture in the White House, I believe that those of us who have spoken out have the same future as those held in Guantanamo Bay cuba. Is it shameful? Most certianly, Is it a discrace, most assuredly, is it done in my name, well it most certianly is, do I agree, I most certianly do not. Have I taken action against it. You better believe I have. Will I continue to do so. I most certianly will.

This is more than I can digest on this Gitmo mess. It should be closed down immediately as requested by the U.N. and human rights organizations. These Muslim prisoners have been treated like dogs, and not to mention three of them have recently committed suicide. This bodes bad news for the President's so-called (and bungled) war on terror policy!

From the look of it, there seems to be a dire shortage of decent people left in the Us. Why in soil outside America when they are all supposed to be terrorist against American interest, to prevent scrutiny by the decent people that would uncover more cover ups that are stinking no matter how nice you package it. SAY WHAT YOU MEAN AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY.

I can handle Gitmo for as long as it takes to round up every Al-Kieda and Taliban member in the world and execute them. But I must admit though after this is done then we should discontinue the camp until we have a new enemy.
