Dream and not to dream. You ever woke up and didn't know the difference. Its always been a thought of mine. That maybe we really don't know when we are asleep or are we awake. Which state would we rather be. How far do you think we could go??

If I am not exaggerating, there is nothing like reality or virtuality to the mind; it is all perception. Our physical brain lives with a set of perceptions, ideas, emotions, etc., which we perceive with our mind, and when we encounter a specific situation, our mind reacts specifically as per the situation (this reaction is called response to stimuli). The stimulus can be a figment of mental creation, or it can be a physical entity, but the mind is unable to distinguish between the mental and the physical, because all that it knows is perception. So, if, on one hand, it can perceive the mental as the 'real' (physical), it can perceive the physical as the 'virtual' (mental). e.g. a man can become afraid of a snake in a dream, whereas the same man can think of a snake as a rope. Later on, even if you try to convince him that it was a snake, he might instead try to convince you that it was a rope. Thus, regardless of the actual nature of this world, the mind perceives only what it perceives of the stimulus. There is no sure shot way to tell whether we are in a dream, or actually awake, because it the mind which tells us this, and when this source through which we perceive is itself biased and frought with states of dream, dreamless sleep, awakedness, druggedness, psychosis, etc., how can we distinguish between the real and the virtual? The bottomline is that all that the mind perceives is just a perception, neither real nor virtual. And we cannot tell through our mind whether the stimulus is real or virtual. In terms of your question, we cannot tell the difference between dreams and perception in an awake state.

In the Bhagwad Gita (a religious book), Lord Krishna says what is day for the yogi (ascetic) is night for the worldly people, and what is day for the worldly is night for the yogi. The verse is not to be taken in its literal sense, but in the sense that people who are bound and those who are free of worldly illusions perceive in different ways, but even in that verse, it is not mentioned as to whether the perception is true or false. It is in this sense that the most learned saying ever has been said--The world is an illusion. It is not in the same form as we perceive, and what we perceive, it is not. But simultaneously, we can also say that the world is only what we perceive, and what we cannot perceive does not exist. What is the truth then?

Think for yourself--isn't it possible that we are actually asleep in a very deep dream while reading this answer on Yahoo Answers, a dream so deep that everything we perceive seems very very real. The screen in front of you could be a figment of imagination. So, could this answer as well as this question, and this forum of Yahoo Answers as well as everything else can be the result of a super powerful imagination. And what if it was? Could you then tell that this is not a dream, being in a dream yourself? Simply put, the world is an illusion, and whatever we think is real or virtual is only what the mind makes us think.

i'm in all likelihood going to circulate over your head with this one yet i'm going to ask even although. What makes you think of that there is any reality? i might say that reality isn't reality and objectives are not reality because of the fact there's no reality. reality is a dream and objectives are objectives too. each thing is an phantasm that hides the unique nature that's nothingness. sort of is clever why Christianity says God is meaningless. Why the Buddha pronounced that the question of no count if something exists or no longer is unanswerable. Why the Tao te Ching says that the Tao which would be measured isn't the eternal Tao. All religions sort of mean that this waking existence is an phantasm and which you would be able to seek for to flee from it. whilst God says 'come back to me' what God is particularly asserting is see issues for how they are. yet maximum non secular human beings omit this because of the fact the authentic meaning is complicated and not trouble-free to hold close.

The short answer is that you don't. Welcome to existentialism.

The answer to the question doesn't matter. Either way you are stuck here until you are dead. Maybe we are all Gods, and this is simply a playground where we go to forgot about our awesome responsibilities and unwind for a short period.

Or maybe we are all just part of a computer simulation. Someday a technician will trip over the power cord and we will all get rebooted. Maybe that was the big bang.

Who knows?

interesting even before the Matrix I felt like there was something strange. I later found out what that was.

We are not our physical bodies like we think we are. We are actually a spirit, kai, energy, or whatever else you want to call it. The physical body is what connects us to this physical plain of exsistence.

Another way you could explain your answer is we only use like 3% of our brains, that leaves 97% unused. Think about it. It means we are not truelly all the way here now doesn't it.

We don't. But why even say "we"? How do you know all other people are not merely dream images either? You may be the only person there is. Absolute solitude.
