Good question.
Too large I guess to answer it precisely but I think... if you don't believe in fate, you're not the who's making your own life. That means your choices, your steps, your paths are all done by yourself and nobody else...but if you think you are a fatalist, then your life is done before you make any choices, any thoughts and so on...
Life doesn't really have a meaning I guess. Since fate isn't my thing, I would say that we control what happens to us.
Life is about... going where you think it's wiser to go. Never regret the paths you follow, because you're the only one who chose, so just try to be aware of a loss, because it can lead you to death when you're trying to make yourself stronger. What I mean is life is full of challenges, when you're done with one, there's another one, and another one until you can't make it...

I am going to give the same answer that I wrote to a question worded as :' How do I know the right religion ? ' I do so, because both are serious questions and to my mind (you will understand), they both have just about the identical answer.

Here is my answer :
One must do one's research - this (i.e. doing research) is a universal answer that applies to so many questions in life.

With respect to your particular question, you could make use of all the 'research' done by several great personages of recent times to arrive at the answer that is agreeable to YOUR conscience. That would save you a lot of time and energy as well as possible folly. For that, I could suggest you read (through books, Internet etc.) the following:

Jiddu Krishnamurti (who has said that 'truth is a pathless land')

UG Krishnamurti (no kin, but was lovingly called a 'cosmic terrorist' ! )

Eckhart Tolle (who wrote 'THE POWER OF NOW' and has an on going website)

Gurdjieff

Andrew Cohen, Stewart Wilde etc. all of whom seem to point towards the 'one ultimate Truth of the Universe' = 'the meaning of life'

NOTE : The founders of all religions appear to attempt to point towards the same 'one ultimate Truth of the Universe' . But unfortunately, as it happens often, man messes it up and divide human beings (look at the branches of various religions and their infighting, sometimes deadly -let alone fighting between religions !) and create all the mess that is seen in the world today setting human against human.

If your search is earnest, you will find the correct answer. Best wishes !

Hi....another good one. and only a day left to answer this---as slow as i type I better get da typing! :)).

I think the meaning of life is whatever meaning a person decides to give to it. If you think about it, what is the meaning of a beautiful sunset or a poem that touches you or the birds singing or just hanging out and laughing with friends or being the recipient of or the giver of an act of kindness or a million other simple things that occur daily? None of those seemingly trivial things have any inherent meaning but yet for me they give life meaning---so to speak. Of course, if someone had a gun to my head and said give me a meaning or else, man! then i guess would say the meaning of life is to experience, grow, love more, engage our senses fully, all this and more.....continually.........

This is more of a philosophical question not a scientific one. The meaning of life has plagued mankind since the inception of formed thought. This was tackled by organized religion by stating life was ment to be lived according to someone elses belief structure. I feel that the meaning of life is to be able to put meaning INTO your life through actions and thoughts. Be your meaning positive or negative it is still meaning to you. There is no one answer that suits every person because what is meaningful to one is not to another. Find your answer within yourself and strive to be the most you can with what you have.

The meaning of life is to live. In the living process if something comes up then you address that. Without life there is no meaning to life. Therefore: all knowledge, activities, or behavior while living are subsets of the living process. Everybody has different customs, norms, mores, laws, philosophies, religions, music, literature, etc, etc, etc. The dead have no use for these things. So the one universal meaning of life is to live. I solved Plato's famous question years ago.

WELLL..that is question that ppl from every age in time have been asking so there really must be not complete answer. For me, i live life as it happens, the good and bad, the ups and downs, and it is all with GOD's help. My purpose in life is whatever GOD wants it to be...he leads me and even when i get pissed off at him, he is always there, loving me. So that is what i think, the meaning of life is to live for GOD and to do what you feel he is calling you to do!!!!

The true meaning of life is to carry out God's deeds by figuring out your purpose in life and achieving that very purpose to make the world and eventually the universe a better place.

Have you ever wondered about the reason of our existence? Have you ever wondered why we die, and where we go after death? What will happen to us in the end? Have you ever asked yourself why God made the earth and all that is in it under man’s dominion? Why were the night and the day, and the sun and the moon created? What are we supposed to do during our lifetime? Were we created just to eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves before we die? As one poet put it:
“I do not know whence I have come.
I saw my feet walking on the road.
As they please I go and stop.
What am I doing here?
How did the road find me?
I do not know! I do not know! I do not know! ”

God has emphasized in many verses of the Qur’an that He did not create us without purpose. He said: “What! Do you think that I created you simply in jest? And that you would not be returned to Me?” (23:115) He also said: “What! Does man think that he will be left to roam at his will?” (75:36) In addition, He said: “Do people think that they will be left to say: “We believe,” and they will not be held accountable?” (29:2)
Indeed, God Has created human beings for a purpose and with a purpose: TO WORSHIP HIM ALONE (Monotheism). He said: “I have not created the Jinn and humankind except only to worship Me. I don't require provision or feeding from them. Surely Allah is the All-provider, the Possessor of all strength, the Firm.” (51:56-58) In fact, all prophets told their people to worship God alone (Monotheism) and shun worshipping His creation (Paganism). God said: “I assuredly sent among every people a messenger with the command: Worship Allah and avoid worshipping false gods.” (16:36)
Prophet Abraham, for example, believed in One God, who had no partner. Anyone who holds a different understanding of God than this has contradicted the religion of Abraham and follows falsehood. God says in the Qur’an: “Those who reject the religion of Abraham make fools of themselves.” (2:130)
Prophet Jesus was reported in the Gospels to have said: “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only’.” (Luke 4:8)
Prophet Jacob also said (in the Qur'an) to his people: “Indeed, those which you worship besides Allah are only names that you and your forefathers have established, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command belongs only to Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the right religion, but most people do not understand.” (12:40)

Real happiness and peace can be ONLY found in submitting to the commands of the Creator and the Sustainer of this world. God has said in the Qur’an: (Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.)
(Qur’an, 13:28)

On the other hand, the one who turns away from the Qur’an will have a life of hardship in this world. God has said:
(But whoever turns away from the Qur’an, he will have a hard life, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment.) (Qur’an, 20:124)
This may explain why some people commit suicide while they enjoy the material comfort money can buy. For example, look at Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), formerly a famous pop singer who used to earn sometimes more than $150,000 a night. After he converted to Islam, he found true happiness and peace, which he had not found in material success.
