It depends on your lifestyle and expectations. I'd say it costs us about 2,400 dollars more per year than before kids.

If you are even a little broke, accept help such as hand me downs from friends, medicaid, and the like. It increases your standard of living for your kids in the long run.

My 2nd baby was almost free.
We had medicaid for my pregnancy, so we paid only a $150 homebirth fee.
He breastfed, wore big sis's cloth diapers, wears the cutest thrift store finds.

The kids do take gymnastics classes and go to activities all over town. I'd say we spend 100 bucks a month on fun/outings/classes. Dh and I only spend an extra 100 bucks a month more than we did pre-kids on food. We have the two kids share a bedroom, and we don't have brand new cars, but can afford for me to be a SAHM and a college student. We intend to do a combo of public school and homeschooling, and maybe we are mean, but we don't plan on paying for their college costs. Buy a modest house. Life insurance is fairly cheap, that's not something to skip. Our policy is for 125,000 and costs us 25 dollars a month, through state farm ins.

get trained to teach a strollersize class
work at a preschool
you get the idea
HTH be creative and look for ways to pinch a penny or make money as a mommy :-)

No one can prolly tell you precisely "how much" to raise a child since parents are too preoccupied in caring of the child rather than recording the childs expenses. It is however a lot of money with the formula, which costs alot, diapers, toys, clothes, and much more and you have to maintain this for several months.
Other than money, you need patience and love to raise a child as well.

In that child's lifetime you'll probably be spending up to millions feeding, clothing, putting a roof over their head, paying for all those clubs and extracuricular activities once they get older by the time they are eighteen and you get ready to kick them out. Don't forget the cost of college for about 6 years(6 in case they change their majors and have to stay a little longer) if you're paying that too. In short, children are expensive.

You can't buy the raise of a child with money.

An arm and a leg. Figure out what it take to care for yourself for one week, multiple it by 10, then multiple again by 18.
