I have a mental disgnoses and I am a mother, the most important thing about mental disorders is to understand them. After I spent time in a hospital with all types, and ages of people with mental disorders I really started looking at things differently. people that have a disorder must get the right help and most of all learn about the disease its self and the medications that are offered and make sure that they are taken as directed and you can live a happy and content life. Look at it this way if you know that you have mental disorders in your family do reasearch for symptoms, treatments etc. But don't waste time worring about something that might or might not happen. I was adopted so I had no idea of my history, but I have a daughter and I am always honest with her and this is what she did. And if it happens look at it this way I bet your mom will always understand why you do the things that you do. And there are new medications all the time that can really help.

People aren't 'crazy'. They have illnesses like schizoprenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, anti-social illnesses....all sorts of stuff. These things are diagnosed. If your mother's disease was diagnosed, and you know what it's called, you can find out all the info on it online...even at Yahoo! Health.

Some things ARE genetically inherited. Some diseases have 'tendencies' to show up in certain families by association with each other.

My mother died of Alzheimer's disease. There are two types. Early onset and late. She had late, which is not inherited. That was somewhat of a relief for me, but it does not mean that I won't get Alzheimer's.

Find out as much as you can about your mother's condition....research...sit in the referrence section of the library for a couple of afternoons. If you still worry, talk to your doctor.

I'd punch my dad in the face for nailing a crazy ***** and then I'd get it checked out ASAP.

Someone once said "crazy people don't ask whether they're crazy or not," so no I wouldn't worry about it.
