you would need a vt100 program to do it. I dont know linux, or if it would work on linux, but there is a program called Procomm that does vt100. you would have to find the DOS version if its still around. To do an escape sequence you just type it as it appears, example:

ESC[0m

Hit the Esc button and [0m

VT100 terminal is for Terminal Answerback. Terminal Answerback is what your school, server or who ever your trying to connect uses to read your incoming connection. Possible choices are ansi, vt100, vt102, vt220, vt320 and xterm. I don't think you can use vt100 in dos, but in putty you can select it from setting's, terminal answerback. You can also use ssh(Secure Shell Connection) at http://www.ssh.com. I think thats more secure and a little faster. As far as how to execute the escape sequence, I'm not sure about in Putty but in ssh you can hit escape.
Hope I helped.

The WebTerm java applet is a terminal emulator which may be embedded within an HTML document or other application which supports java. A low-level screen handler and a Telnet session client are included so that the emulated terminal can be used to establish a remote connection.
