i'm a guitar instructor, and i've played in tons of bands. i'm leaning toward fewer effects. i like to just get my tone from my guitar, my amp, and my fingers. i have a recording studio in my house and i have literally dozens of pedal for that, but when i play out, i use an overdrive (which just give me a little more grit and volume), a chorus pedal ( with the rate set real low, and i'll send it to 2 amps sometimes) and a wah pedal. some songs just need a wah pedal.

also, the fewer things involved, the fewer things can go wrong.

Some expensive electronic effects units can sound realy plastic, i want to get a wha for now i just use the effects built inot my 100 Watt Marshell and they do fine, i don't really need any more then that.

My marshel effects are delay, flanger and chorus. You can mix them both with delay (except for delay itself of course). And of course the standard reverb and overdrive/distortion.

I find that a chorus pedal set at a tad below mid with an echo set to three to four repeats before fading, can be warm yet haunting depending on what you play.

Flange is nice...Distortion is over rated...I just play acoustic now...electric guitar will never sound as good as an acoustic

i like to get my sound from my fingers - bending strings and hammering on.

I use tons of electro-harmonix. It's pretty much all electro-harmonix for me.
