What the hell do people have against Ep 1 and 2? I grew up on Star Wars. I remember when the scripts were originaly writen for 1-3. 3 ended up being reversed. The original script had Anakin become Vader right off. He was sent to Mustafar to find a powerfull crystal. If the jedi got it they could balance the force wit it (Obiwan was sent for this reason) and if the emporer got it, he would be all powerfull (anakin was sent for this reason.

Ep 1 and 2 were the early days of Anakin. Now Ep 1 could have been skipped story line. But as for Star Wars. Ep 2 was def Star Wars. It covered a major point in the SW universe: The CLone wars.

I read a interview of a guy who said he met Lucas on a beach one time and he asked Lucas if he would ever consider another movie. Lucas said that if he ever did, he would love to go back 800 years to when Yoda helped win the SIth Wars.

Episode 1 had Jar-Jar Binks, who annoyed most people over 7. Episode 2 was poorly written and the plot was too complicated for the amount of dialogue provided to explain it. The poor lovers had bad lines and they were told to play different scenes as if they were different people. Sometimes chatty, sometimes stern and haughty like high-schoolers trying to play Shakespeare. Some of us still pay attention to things like that.

Interesting. I think Ep. I and II could have been cleaned up a little better. But all-in-all, the first two prequels were just "okay." Revenge of the Sith, I think, is the second best Star Wars film in the series. Here's what I would have done for the prequels (if George would let me).

1) Lose Jar-Jar, R2 and C-3P0 for the first two episodes. They hammed up an otherwise dark story.

2) Use Darth Maul as Palpatine's main baddie until Anakin steps up--no Dooku, no General Grievous.

3) Make Anakin's origin a little more believable: In Ep. I Anakin was explained as just happening. What, no father? Immaculate conception? Instead, have Anakin be the orphan of murdered parents, or tragically lose one parent. This would better explain an underlying "anger."

4) More Vader in Ep. III.

George Lucas said HE won't film any more films, but that doesn't necessarily mean nobody else would. Sure, it'll be nice to have the gap between the 10 years that Ep. I and Ep. II took place filled as movies instead of novels but it's a bit too late for that, knowing that the actors are grown and all now. We also need the waning days of the Empire to be covered and the years beyond that and the events that follows such as Han and Leia's wedding as well as Luke and Mara Jade's, the birth of the Solo twins, Jaina and Jacen, and younger Anakin Solo, and the days of the New Republic and the New Jedi Order founded by Luke Skywalker.

I think that for most fans, the expectation and hype leading up to Ep. I was so great that nothing could have saved it, or made it better than our imaginations of what it should have been. With that said, I think Lucas did a terrible job with the flow of the movie and the 'timing' of it.

I understand that he wanted to show how an innocent little boy could grow up to be so corrupted that he becomes Darth Vader, but he could have easily done a quick childhood sequence for the first 30-40 minutes, then gone to Ep. 2 events about halfway through Ep. 1 and then have Ep. 2 be Ep. 3, with Ep. 3 being further into Darth Vader's early years. You didn't need the whole movie to illustrate that Anakin was a nice, innocent, cute little boy... that point was understood about 30 minutes into the Tatooine scenes, so what was the rest of the hour and thirty minutes?

Also, the character of Jar Jar, which most people hammer, should have been hammered. 1999 was the point of very good CG characters and rather than use it sparingly in the movie, Lucas decided to throw Jar Jar everywhere to show us he could do it.

The problem with Episode 1 and 2 was that the charm and sense of awe was lacking from those two films as compared to the previous three. When the originals came out special effects technology was used that hadn't been seen before. And the characters were engaging because of the acting abilties of folks like the unknown Harrison Ford and veterans like Alec Guiness.

The new movies came out and with wooden acting, annoying characters, and special effects while good were not awe inspiring because of the age of CGI.

I have nothing against them, but I think people have some BS recolection of how good the first 3 were and because they were kids back then, they can never feel the same way about the new ones as they did then, now because they are grown up.

The movies are pretty much the same, I think if anything these are better....better acting, better action and better effects by far...

Remember, episode I also show the cunning of Palpatine. TO me, that's truly what ep I is all about. Palpatines first galactic chess move to acquire power.
