Never. Juice is nothing more than sugar water and empty calories. True, it's "natural" sugar derived from fruit, but it's still sugar, which could rot her teeth if you don't care for them properly. Plus, I know of people who started giving their babies juice, and it got to the point where the kids would refuse anything (milk, formula, water) to drink except the juice. It's much better to give your baby an apple instead of apple juice. It's loaded with vitamins and fiber. Just make sure you cut it into tiny pieces to prevent choking. 5 months might be too young for that though. How many teeth does she have?

I gave my kids juice around this time. By the time period for my kids was a while ago. Times have changed. I didn't stick to what all the docs said. I gave my kids baby cereal at two weeks old. Milk from cows around 5 to six months, and also some mashed potatoes. Gave them water, milk, koolaid, and it didn't bother them. Don't depend on the sippy cup too much, because that can be just as hard to break as a bottle. My kids were all off the bottle by the time they were a year old. Then it was regular cups. Didn't have sippy cups then. But if it is regular juice, like orange, you could water it down some. They have juice's for babies in the store. In some babies, too much apple juice will make them poop a lot. So not too much of that. Or if you have something that you think your baby might like, give a little sip, and check the reaction you get. If they like it and do not get sick, then continue. The choice is yours to make. Good luck with this. Let us know what happens.

I wanted to tell you that there is a website that you can check out that has all kinds of really good info. when it comes to nutrition for your baby throughout it's growth. The exact page that I give you has a section under the header "New Mexico Cooperative Extension" - Feeding Your Baby The First Year....check it out and check out the rest of the site for any further information. You could also check in your area for a Women,Infants & Childrens program not only for helpful info., but they will help you buy food if you are eligable.

According to this....anytime from 4-6 months you can introduce a vitamin C fortified juice (Juicy Juice is excellent...100% juice....no fillers) ....introductions of juice depend solely on your childs development. Couple more things to remember....when you give your baby juice,it really should come from a sippy cup and not a bottle & NEVER let your baby have anything in a bottle to go to sleep with besides water! Hope that this all helps you and congrats on the baby!

You never *need* to give her juice. Water is better for drinking, and fruit is better than juice nutritionally.

If you want to give her some juice, you should wait until she is eating solids (most babies are ready to start solids between 6 and 12 months) and has eaten the fruit. Citrus should be one of the last fruits introduced, but you can give apple as soon as she starts solids.

I heard that giving your baby water before juice will be healthier in the long run especially in his or her teens just give him or her water or get fresh fruit and put it in the mesh netting that munchkin makes and he or she will have juice by chewing and sucking on it. I have a 5 month old that loves it.
