I have been to Florida on numerous vacations and it depends where you go. My daughter lives in Miami and really loves it, but I can't stand it down there. My friends live in Silver Springs and they liked it so much they bought a place there. I'm glad they did aplace to stay for next time. We have been there once and it is less crowded than Southern Fla. but it is in the interior and had to travel awhile to get to the beach if that is important to you. We also have spent time in the panhandle near Destin. It was nice but the beach is hard to walk on for great distances because the sand is loose. The sand there is beautiful - white sand. I have met lots of people down there and they are no better or worse than other vacation places. If you want culture shock Southern Fl. is the place. Retired people are everywher doesn't matter. Cooler temps try the panhandle area.

I have been there once when I accompanied my husband on a delivery to a funeral home of furniture in Hollywood, Florida. The owners were very hateful and everywhere we stopped to get something to eat bums would come up and beg for money. The beach was not half as beautiful as Myrtle Beach or Charleston. People make the place and I never met anyone during the entire trip who was friendly.

WOW, so many negative answers. I've lived in FLA since I was born (a few different areas), I agree that South Florida is an entire different culture than North and Central Florida. I'm in a small town in Central FLA, and I LOVE it. We are close to everything, beach Disney, etc. but we don't have the traffic or the rude attitudes of a large city. It reminds me of a town located in the South, everyone knows everyone and most people are genuine and caring. I wouldn't live or raise my kids anywhere else!

i'm uncertain approximately Florida (Tim Tebow is basically a sophomore....he would be decrease back)----that became a super interest although so i do no longer think of Florida is overvalued. OU, on the different hand...became flat out pathetic. WVA outplayed them massive TIME. Bob Stoops, i'm particular of it, went decrease back into the locker room on the tip of the sport and started sobbing. Too undesirable, OU followers...perhaps next time?

The beaches and lifestyle can be wonderful. Just keep an eye on Alberto and the other hurricanes.

Florida sounds great when you are living in Illinois, but once I moved here... it's not so great anymore...
It's mostly because you know that the beach is there, and you don't have to rush and go to it!
☼the sun is nice for tanning though☼

I like Orlando, I'd be willing to retire there someday.
My uncle has lived in Miami for a very long time, he likes it. We visited him once, way too crowded and crazy for my taste
