if i was a parent i would never let children on the computer unless i was sitting next to them because there are too many bad sites.i would never let them in chatrooms because you do not know who the person is and if they are really a child

It's important to know where they tend to go on the net. These days the minor intrusion of privacy may be worth it. I'm not saying go behind their backs and find out, but as their parent you should know where they are. As long as they promise to not give out ANY pictures or personal info, they should be okay. Parental controls are not a bad idea. But sometimes they interfere with innocent sites, etc. The best preventative method is to supervise them well.

you need to spend time with your kids on the net together talking about what is out there that is safe and reliable and what is not. if you train your kids early on. they will have those skills as they get older and not need you right there all the time.

not to give out any personal information...such as last name, city, school, etc. ...any thing a predator can use to find them...they will find them. if they are on myspace...ask to see their profile just to see what info is on it that may be a danger to them.
