The user manual says that "Seagate does not recommend using portable external hard drive for transferring data between Windows and Mac" Is this really true???? Will my dad's PC be able to read the data? I just shipped it 2000 miles across the country ... When he plus it into his MAC, will all the data be lost?

It might be unreadable I'm not sure.
He can always hook it to a Windows XP laptop and FTP (network transfer) it to the Mac.

Most of the time Macs will read just about anything you plug into them. It depends on the format of the hard drive. Windows uses a completely different system format than Macs, but you can use a Windows computer to format the drive to a universal format, I think FAT32. Then you'll be able to use it on both platforms w/o any problems, with exception to files like WindowsMedia and programs your dad doesn't have. If you format the drive everything will be lost, so make copies of it all before you do it. You can partition the drive also, meaning you'll have 'two' drives but only one physical piece of hardware (the 32 refers to 32gigs). I would suggest letting him try it and if it doesn't work then back it up and format it. If you go to the help section on your PC it tells you how to format drives.
