But, how can we ever know if the additional time is accurate with the time lost in the game?

To continue "soccer_mind"'s answer, there would be no accurate way to count stoppage time if the clock ran down.

Negative time? Who builds clocks like that?

Counting up after counting down? Players and the ref could become confused as to how much time is left.

In sports like hockey and basketball where the clock only moves when game play occurs, this isn't a problem and the clock can count down. But football (the world game) allows the clock to continue when play is stopped.

Because in every game there is the "injury" or "stoppage" time, provided by the ref at game time.

Because soccer is effing sdrawkcabbackwards and it should be football.
