I'm 17 going on 18 and my 16 year old girlfriend(not sure why age matters) My GFs dad won't seem to leave her alone, him and her stepmom found her on myspace and won't leave her alone! Melissa's dad was in her life a couple of times but he keeps leaving, when she was 3,9, and once again last year, she doesn't want to have a relationship with him because she knows that he's a misfit father who is just gonna leave eventually... I just wanna help her but although I was in the same situation once, I don't know what to say... Please help?

This is something that you can truly not assist with too much. You can be there for her, give her a shoulder to lean on when she needs it, but you cannot influence her family.. nor should you.

If she asks for your help, tell her that you are there for her and want to help.. you will do whatever you can.

Honestly, this needs to be worked out with her family.

If you think she's got the guts to do so, tell her to call him and say, "Listen, I know you're my father, but you are NOT my "dad". You haven't earned the right to be a part of my life. I would appreciate it if you would leave me alone until I decide whether or not I'd like to work on a relationship with you."

i don't know about where you live but in my state a child of 16 can legally choose to not have anything to do with the non-custodial parent. If she doesn't want him around she should tell him and especially point out that he can't just bust in and out of her life whenever it's convenient and be allowed to have an opinion about what she does.
