Read the end first ;-)
If it's an opiate give up... IV drug abusers almost never recover. You could try putting him in a rehab clinic but unless it's court ordered there is no way to force him to stay in. Morphine, phentenyl, codeine, oxycodone, and similar type drugs have very little chance of recovery once the users resorts to intraveneous use. That doesn't mean there is no hope, but keep in mind heroin was created as a LESS ADDICTIVE alternative to morphine...
The longer he uses the less the chance of recovery, you need to take immediate action to stop his use which will probably require 1 of 2 things, having him arrested or having him hospitalized. Since docs are scripting him it is very unlikely you would be able to have him arrested. Having a drug addict hospitalized is difficult to... but right now it is absolutely your best option... convince him, or trick him if you have to, to going to an ER and have him committed (or possibly self commit) for psychiatric care as most psych units have a specialized drug addiction unit. If he is unwilling to go I would very honestly speak with your local police and/or hospital to see the best way to go about having him admitted into the hospitals care (explain that he's not using illegal drugs...)
He is not going to stop using on his own, I can guarantee you that...

I'm really sorry to say that I don't think there is very much you can do for them at this point. Perhaps getting some information about rehabs so that it's readily available when the person is ready to get help. Maybe an intervention would be a good idea, but most often a person has to want to get help before help is even an option. I would like to see you get some support for yourself, maybe through Naranon or something.

I would do a family intervention. By no means can you help this person , if they really don't want help, but you can get a bunch of people together that care for this person , offer them detox, and let them know you love them and support them if they want to stop. Good luck and God bless.

I'd get them help. If they won't go to counseling, I'd go to counseling alone without them to get the professionals' advice on how to handle it. In the most extreme, nothing-left-to-try scenario, I'd call the police to see if there was anything they could do about it. If there was nothing they could do (because the person has prescriptions), call the doctors and tell them what's going on.

i just found out my brother is a junky(heroin), he showed me is track marks through the glass at jail i felt like such a fool i had no idea he started shooting, he told me he started with prescription stuff and he needed more and more to feel it my only suggestion is to try to get this person into a program ,because it only gets worse no matter how much you love them
