i think he was ran out of town after the loss to edmonton. he was not totally to blame for the first round exit. maybe illitch needs to do what he did with the tigers to the wings: rebuild and let go of all of these aging stars. start cheap. that's just a thought. i say they get rid of ozzie too. he is not that great of a goalie. who would you rather see as a goalie in detroit?

Hi there.

Legace will not come back. Ken Holland, GM of the Red Wings, confirmed this. He's not back.

IMO, he is gone due to 1st round exit.

The Wings have a history of doing this, impatience, most recently CuJo. I remember that when CuJo and the Wings lost in the playoffs, his team only scored like 12 goals in front of him. Clearly not his fault.

Furthermore, Legace had a great season and doesn't deserve to leave.

I hope that the Leafs sign him -- they need a starter.

Anyway -- I want to address someone's post on here. Detroit, is not a good team. Their record, is obviously not indicative of how good of a team they are -- it just shows that they're in a bad division. Out of 24 games played with St. Louis, Columbus and Chicago, Detroit won 21. They also went into OT at least two times with them, and lost. That's 44 of their 124 points, bringing them down to 80 (obviously they wouldn't have lost all 21 wins).

I sure hope that Manny isn't gone but I haven't heard either way. I agree that the Wings need to do some changing, but they had a hell of a season, so I don't think that getting rid of the veterans is the answer. As for Osgood, don't forget that he was with Detroit in '97 as Vernon's back-up, though he got little play time in the play-offs and that he was the #1 goalie in '98. he's a good goalie and I think that he is a great asset to the Wings. Loyalty is a big thing and I was sad to see him go and was thrilled to have him back. Besides, you saw what happened when they brought in a big name like CuJo, he sucked and except in 2002, Hasek wasn't much better.

they haven't ruled out bringing legace back they simply said they are not offering him a contract before the free agency period begins which leaves them open to signing him after that time if someone else doesn't pick him up and if they don't find someone better .... they simply want to explore the free agency market themselves as well as any possible trades .... i wouldn't mind seeing legace back ... he is a good goalie and he played good during the regular season ... he can't be the only one you fault for the early playoff exit .... where was the rest of the team? .... only a handful of players showed up to play that first round series with edmonton
