Can anyone explain what the commander of Guantanamo even meant by this ridiculous comment? On what planet does this make sense? Conservatives: please reply....

First off, no, the comment is inane and offensive.

Second, to dispute other posts - asymmetrical warfare is what we face when we fight suicide bombers. They blow up a bomb and kill 50 people, we can't retaliate by killing 50 of the Jihadists, because we don't know who or where they are. We have to try to track them down one by one. This creates the asymmetry.

Vice Admiral James Stockdale (of Ross Perot fame) while being held as a prisoner of war in Vietnam once bashed his own face in with a chair so he could not be photographed for propaganda purposes & in order to serve as an example of non-cooperation to other prisoners. He was awarded the medal of honor for that example & this specific incident is cited. That is asymmetric warefare by a prisoner.

It could be viewed, rightly or wrongly, that these individuals, not fearing death & wishing to be both martyrs & an example of resistance to fellow prisoners would commit such acts to embarass the American military & deny us further use of them for intelligence purposes. It's impossible to know what was in the mind of a person who's killed themselves, but it's a fair guess, even if not very PC.

You mean like our war for Independence? I believe technology has eliminated the possibility of asymmetric warfare.

I think that you are slow to get answers to this question because nobody knows what "asymmetric warfare" is.

I had to look this up. It is a situation where a weaker force has a tactical advantage due to any number of factors (see link).
