OK, so a lot of people.. including a cop who knows the law don't believe you. but yes, you are now an official sex offender, get used to getting screwed over for doing nothing wrong since there isn't a lot you can do about it. Until the law decides that peeing and molesting children are NOT the same thing then you have a problem. Maybe you should have gotten a fine or something, or maybe went over night if kids could see you do it, but hell I've seen people let 5-6 year old kids pee outside before..

In the state of Illinois being convicted of "Unlawful Restraint" gets you registered as a Sex Offender.
The worst example of this mis-application is the guy in the Chicago suburbs who is now a RSO because a 14 year old girl darted out from between 2 parked cars in front of him, well he slammed on the breaks and didn't hit her but he did get out of his car and give her a good talking too about being more careful. Unfortunately for him he was holding her arm and she screamed to be released. The cops were called and he was arrested, charged with unlawful restraint.
Another mis-use of this was an example that I got directly from calling ISORT (Illinois Sex Offender Registry Team) where a young man in his late teens was having a heated discussion with his girlfriend. He wanted her to hear him out so he blocked the door perventing her from leaving until he was finished saying his peace. Her family called the police, not knowing that he would be branded as a Sex Offender both the young and and his girlfriend relayed accurately what had happened (including the fact that he never touched or even threatened to touch her but merely prevented her from leaving until he finished talking). Now he is a Registered Sex Offender.
HERE IS THE EXACT WORDING FROM ISORT WEBSITE:
An attempt to commit any of these offenses.
A violation of any of the following Sections of the Criminal Code of 1961 when the victim is a person under 18 years of age, the defendant is not a parent of the victim and the offense was committed on or after January 1, 1986:
10-1 Kidnapping
10-2 Aggravated Kidnapping
10-3 Unlawful Restraint
10-3.1 Aggravated Unlawful Restraint
An attempt to commit any of these offenses.

He most likely has told you exactly what happened. Many states put people on the registry for this. Florida is one of the worst. I know of one guy in Florida that was at the Daytona races. He went behind a dumpster to take a leak. A family walked by the FRONT of the dumpster. They saw NOTHING but they demanded he be arrested because they HEARD him. I have read the transcripts I know this to be the actual truth. This family would not give up until he had been prosecuted and put on the registry.
Do not Judge others, lest you be judged. God is the ultimate Judge. I have to wonder how many of you people with murder in your hearts will be judged on your judgement day.

This guy didn't pee on a tree, but he sure doesn't belong on a sex offender registry.
"Derick Meggison, 19, did something stupid. During a verbal confrontation with three women acquaintances, Meggison, fully clothed, grabbed his crotch and said something crude. One of the women called the police, and Meggison was booked for public indecency... [he is a] convicted sex offender. By state law, [he is] required to register on Colorado's Sex Offender Registry..."

And how would peeing behind a tree put you on a sex offenders register??? Tell us what really happened!
Addition:
I'd also quite like to know why you were peeing behind a tree where people were obviously able to see you? (if they couldn't you wouldn't be having this problem, apparantly) Guess you've learnt your lesson not to "pee in public".

Trust me it happens. One family insisted a person be put on the registry because he was peeing off his back porch/deck at midnight and their darling little angel (why she was out at that hour who knows) saw him take a leak. She ran in and told Mommy. She promptly called the cops. Not knowing he broke a law when they asked him if he had peed off his back deck he said yes. Handcuffs, 5 years probation and has to stay in sex offender counseling until he finishes probation.

Because all sex offenders only molest pretty little white girls. Or at least that's what the media wants us to believe... I'm a bit suspect of the whole thing...
