It makes them feel more secure in thinking that they know and have everything under control and that they're on top. Stereotyping is horrible and the people who do it are insecure and are trying to get the attention off of themselves so people don't see the scared little insecure people they are.

We need to label everything in life, so we all know what each other is talking about. If i say "ball" you also know what i am tlaking about because you also know what it is, because we have assigned a name to an object (or trait). Unfortunately, people try to do this also with other people, but since we are so much more complex then the narrow scope of language, problems arise.

People who need to label other people suffer from anxiety and insecurity. They think it somehow gives them control over other people.

Maybe you should help them clarify who exactly you are by being open with them. People are trying to figure out why you act the way you do so that they can understand you, and in their minds they are more comfortable with people they understand than behaviours beyond their judgment.

people of all ages are actually petty and immature individuals seeking acceptance into a group so that they can feel that they are without defect. people who choose to label themselves as outcasts are those who could not fit in to their group of choice
