Okay....a few weeks ago...I had a sore throat that hurt when I swallowed ... *really badly* and I went to a doctor and they took a culture on my throat and said I didn't have Strep Throat. I was so relieved. The doctor said that it MIGHT be the beggining of a virus...but It's okay....at least that's what I think he said. MAIN POINT IS: HE DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY MEDICINE OR ANY FORM OF PRESCRIPTION and it will go away. It did. I was fine for a couple of days, and then it hurt a TINY bit...the doctor said that I should just ELEVATE my head....when i sleep. ... it hurts rarely and not bad at all...just a tiny bit....but I'm worried BECAUSE i heard that UNTREATED THINGS LIKE THAT COULD LEAD TO WORSE COMPLICATIONS. WHAT DO I DO !!!!! omgoshness. : ( THEN....I just went to the bathroom and sort of gagged myself cuz I heard it was healthy to gagg urself cuz it gets rid of the MUCUS...but...WRONG....it hurt and i couldnt stop gagging.then i stopped and it hurts a bit. HELP !!!!!!!!!

Your doctor told you to elevate your head when you sleep because he suspected you might have reflux problems. Acid in your stomach comes back into your throat when you are sleeping and it causes your throat to be sore. If that is what's wrong, don't eat after 6:00 p.m., elevate the head of your bed by putting a brick underneath the supports at the head of the bed, and buy Nexium, over the counter.
The other possibility is post nasal drip from sinus drainage. If you have allergies to pollen it would be showing up about this time of year.
You will be okay. Most Americans live with these two problems with no significant complications. If it gets worse, go back again and ask him what his diagnosis is. Good luck.

If it was strep (which it wasn't) it would be dangerous to let it go untreated. If it is viral, it just has to run its course. It is possible for strep to develop as a secondary infectiion, so if your throat gets much worse, go back to the doctor. As for gagging, where did you hear that? Gargling with warm salt water is good for sore throats. Try that.

There is no meds to kill a virus, you just have to deal with it. And yes, a cold can lead to worse stuff, but only if you don't take care of yourself. Get plenty of fluids, rest whenever possible and take your vitamins. I don't know where you heard that gagging thing, but it's completely stupid and wrong. All you'll do is make yourself throw up. If you're really that concerned, call the doctor.

Go to another Dr. Strep throat is a serious infection. It could turn into rheumatic fever which can affect the heart. I don't want to scare you but you do need to be on medication if it really is strep.

beth is right, viruses cannot be cured with antibiotics. it sounds like your doctor suspects that your having sinus drainage in your sleep causing your throat to be sore (hence the reason he told you to elevate your head). sounds gross, but that's what is sounds like. the guy didn't go to school and get licensed to get sued for malpractice. stop worrying, or you'll drive yourself crazy (and end up needing to see another type of doctor all together). just kidding.

if its just a simple virus, medicines may hurt you more than help you. gagging yourself is just stupid.
