There are soooo many things that could go wrong with this ability, but also so many things could go right .I think I'd go and read Tom Cruises' mind and find out what all those "Voices" are saying to him.JK

Work with people who cannot communicate otherwise.

People in a coma
Trapped miners
Earthquake victims
Autistic children
Deaf and dumb who do not sign

this list is probably a lot longer, but you get the idea.

There is a general push to get people to believe that this works, here are some of the difficulties:

Does reading a mind mean "reading current thoughts" or "to have full access to the memory banks" ? The former is more likely than the latter, as we do produce a current pattern when we think. But even if "reading thoughts" would work, you would find out relatively little in many days: how often do we think our own name, or "think" our own address, or mentally repeat our checking account number? Then there is the issue of interefence, here a super-weak signal has 4 billion similar signals (the rest of humanity) on the same frequency. And finally, there is the question of symbolic correspondence, i.e. if you can read one mind, can you read all minds ? Human thought constructs/signals are not alphabetic or component based, thoughts and concepts are simply activated regions, and they won't express the same type of activity burst.

If I could read minds, I would want to know what people in the large metropolitan areas think while they are sitting in traffic jams.
Here is a solution for that issue:

I would probably have to live alone and isolated from society if I could read everyone's mind. It would be very difficult to live with this ability because nothing would be sacred or special about anyone anymore. It would be difficult not to invade everyone's privacy. But if I could control this power and if I could use it in a way that would not make me insane or evil than I would really like to expose all the terrible politicians and people who have power in a public way in the hopes that maybe we could vote for honest and henuine people during democratic elections. Perhaps I would also like to use the power to win money somehow where reading minds would allow me to do so. I could always use a few extra dollars.

This ability could help a lot of people who cannot otherwise communicate but it would probably be very stressful to the person with this 'gift' similar to hearing voices in their head constantly and not being able to tune them out.I would not wish such a 'gift' on my worst enemy. Truly sometimes it's best to just be happy with what God has already given us as he has a reason why we cannot 'hear' people's minds (privacy is another reason) and why we cannot communicate telepathically. I think these 'talents' could unfortunately be used more for evil than good.

wel, u r right abt soo many things going wrong too.... remember tht movie - "thought crimes" ? the leading lady had this extra-ordinary gift and she was confined in a lunatic asylum just bcoz she told the truth and kept hearing voices in her head.

i think tht if i had such a gift, i wud listen eagerly to watever every1 thinks but i'll never make it public tht i have such a gift for the world seems to have a knack of punishing ppl who r speaking the truth. To make watever i've "heard" public, i'd choose a more subtle approach.

may be i'd opt for the interrogation of ppl caught by the police. tht way i'd be able to save the innocents frm a terrible future and ensure tht the guilty dont get away.

I'll go on Who wants to be a Millionaire or Wheel of Fortune and win money. I'll cheat on exams...word of advice don't try to read Tom Cruises' mind who knows how crazy you'll become. Soon you'll be jumping on couches and marrying someone who is half your age.

I think I would use it to try and figure out what someone needed the most.

Like if they needed attention, or patience, or even someone to pay their phone bill.

I know that's cheesy, but like you said you would have to be careful soooo many things could go wrong.

Well, if I was the only human to have it them I'd get rid of it.- Solomon: 'don't listen to every word your servant says or you may hear him curse you'. Anyhows iti'd just be too freaky; like how would we ever fall in love with an ordinary human? Or anything ordinary?

After reading Richard's post, I would like to change my answer.

I would use it to help people that cannot communicate with the rest of the world.

Wonderful answer Richard.

I would use it to know who were real my friends by what they are saying about me in their minds. I would read my mom's mind and see what she is about to fuss about so I could do it before she had a chance to fuss about it.
